UniBearsity Café: A “beary” Beautiful Place to Relax

By: Kristylle Renz C. Dela Cruz

UniBearsity Café characterizes itself as a concept hang-out place located at the new Kalahi Bldg. near San

Pablo cathedral along Azucena Street. It was build because of the owner’s (Castille Reyes) love for teddy

bears and they think that this place is near in the universities or schools that is why they called it

UniBearsity Café. They aims to serve every costumers not just a good food, but also a unique dining

experience.

Adorned with teddy bears and throw pillows, UniBearsity Café has a relaxed and homey vibe, with

instagramable aesthetics. They have a crib-style that lounges for each group of costumers, where you can

sit on the floor, plop on the pillow and snuggle the teddy bears that is as big as a 10-year old kid. If dining

while sitting on the floor is not your thing, don’t worry. This café has regular tables and chairs for costumers

who think its hassle to remove your shoes in public and find it uncomfortable to sit with your legs crossed

for a long period of time. They also offer card games like Uno and building blocks that you can use while

you were waiting for your order. They also have a back ground music that made the place even more

relaxing and comfortable. Although they are relatively new because they just open this last January 7,

2019, this place seems to be well-liked by teens and also the café’s ambience contributes a lot to its

popularity.

As for the menu, UniBearsity Café offers pasta, snacks such as nachos, burgers and fries that made them

unique because their fries is a big cut and have a unique taste and flavor. They also have drinks like milk

tea that is not like other café because their milk tea is shaked, not just a liquid with ice. They offer a small

selection of desserts like Banana Split and Wicked Oreo. They also serve ‘silogs aka breakfast meals all-
day, and they have a wide variety of beverages to choose from. All items on their menu are affordably-

priced, nothing beyond Php 100.

Because we ate rice before going into the café, we decided to just have a snacks and drinks. It didn’t take

long for us to wait on our food to be served. We ordered Nachos, it served on a plate, topped with a small

amount of gourd beef, chopped tomatoes and gooey, melted cheese. I like that the chips were crispy and

the toppings were flavorful but I would have liked it even more if it has more toppings with the mix of

cucumber and onions. The drinks were okay, but I can tell from one sip that they’re made from fruit juice

powder and not from natural fruit juice but I like their presentation. They were serve in a cute, bear-shaped

glass which matched the café’s theme. The dessert, Wicked Oreo to be specific is at its best. I am new to

the ice cream’s flavor but it taste good. It also have a 4 piece floppy muffin-like buns with a melted

chocolate in between.

Overall, I like the concept of having a café with a bear-theme near the universities. It has budget-friendly

food that even a high school students can afford; a cozy place to hang-out with friends, brainstorm for a

project or have a group study. The ambiance and aesthetics that would stand out on instagram. If there is

anything that the café should work on, it was their kitchen techniques because small amount of toppings

and powdered-flavor juice can ruin the whole dining experience. My ratings is four out of five stars.
