21st CENTURY TEACHING AND LEARNING

"Today's digital kids think of ICT as something akin to oxygen; they expect it, it's what they breathe and
it's how they live". ( John Seely Brown)

Pre-service teachers in the 21st century are technology savvy. The students in the 21st century have
grown up in a fast paced digital world. As a 21st century kid, I was awed by the mere mention of the 21st
century. The optimist in me envistioned a 21st century that was sleek, modern, and bursting with
gadgets that stretched the imagination. The impact of abundant and ever-changing technology
particularly information and communication technology frequently dominates conversation in and about
modern society.

According to Elizabeth Rich that the 21st century teaching and learning, is generally used to refer to
certain core competencies such as collaborative, digital literacy, critical thinking and promlem solving
that advocates believe schools need to teach to help students thrive in today's world.

In 21st century world; the knowledge economy that is critical thinking, networked that is
communication, Global teams that is collaboration, and Innovation Driven that is creativity is what the
students and teachers need. And I agree with this article, because we're now in new generation in which
students and teachers must follow the flow of trends in teaching and learning. This article help the
teacher, teach their students easily it because the students now are the centred in the class. And
students learn easily and fastly it because of the research driven. The 4C's that the learner's and
educator need is critical thinking which look like in the classroom as Project based learning,
Communications which look like in the classroom as Social Media Use and Accountable talk,
Collaboration which look like in a classroom as design thinking teams, and Creativity which is look like in
a classroom as Genius Hours. Those are the core competencies that is set in this article that i agreed.

The 4C's that is said in the article of 21st century teaching and learning is good nowadays/in our
generation, but we as the learners and future educator should not forget the traditional education which
is the teacher is also be the centred in the class, fragmented curriculum, more on memorising, time-
based, text book driven, speed determined by the whole class, and students are treatend all the same.
And based on my study, it is recommended treat the teachers will undergo training on proper use of ICT
as the 21st century tools in teaching and learning, to make sure of what they teach is correct where the
learners can adopt, learn and use it in their daily lives. And the students should not only based in 21st
century education, though we're now part of this but we still have to remember and used the traditional
education. According to Amit Ray "Education is beautification of the inner world and the outer world".
No matter our education system is tradional or new generation as long as we learned something.
