SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN FOR GRADE-7 MATHEMATICS

Prepared by: Jennelyn G. Malayno

I. OBJECTIVES The students will be able to
a. identify the instruments used to measure length (ruler)… and weight
scale;
b. differentiate nonstandard and standard units of measure ; and
c. give examples of both nonstandard and standard units of measure
use in real life.
A. Content Standard demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of measurement

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS is able to formulate real-life problems involving measurements and solve
these using a variety of strategies.

C. Learning Competency/Objectives illustrates what it means to measure.

III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages pp.124-132
2. Learner’s Materials pages pp.99-105
3. Textbook pages
4. Additional Materials from Learning
Resource (LR)portal
B. Other Learning Resource
IV. PROCEDURES .
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting The teacher will ask the students about the previous discussion.
the new lesson
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson The students will be able to
d. identify the instruments used to measure length (ruler)… and weight
(scale • …
e. differentiate nonstandard and standard units of measure • …
f. give examples of both nonstandard and standard units of measure
use in real life.
C. Presenting examples/Instances of the new begin the discussion by asking students to tell everything they know about
lesson measurement,
focus on each of the bullet points. Students should be able to tell you why we
need standard units of measurement – to describe things and to
communicate with others.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing Discuss the fact that inches and feet are our standard units of measurement
new skills # 1 for length. Ask if we would use these same units to measure weight. When
students respond “no,” explain that we use grams to weigh things on a scale.
Display the balance scale, and put a small object (e.g., sea shells) in one
side.
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing Distribute paper clips to two different volunteers – one volunteer should
new skills # 2 receive small paper clips, and the other large paper clips. “Weigh” the object
using both sizes of paper clips and record results on the board. Ask students
to explain the differences in results.
F. Developing mastery Ask for students to respond to the question, “Why did your friends get
(leads to Formative Assessment 3) different answers?” Draw attention to the nonstandard paper clip sizes of the
two students who measured shells
Give two other volunteers 1-gram weights and allow them to measure the
object. Record results on the board and discuss. Draw attention the similarity
of results and explain that this is due to the use of standard units of weight-
measurement.
G. Finding practical application of concepts Display the balance scale, and put a small object (e.g., sea shells) in one
and skills in daily living side.
H. Making generalizations and abstractions The teacher will ask volunteer to summarize the topic.
about the lesson
I. Evaluating learning The teacher will ask questions after the activity. The teacher will observe the
class during the activity and record the performance of the students.
J. Additional activities for application or
remediation
V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the
evaluation
B. No. of learners who require additional
activities for remediation who scored below
80%
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of
learners who have caught up with the
lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to require
remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked
well? Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my
principal or supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized materials did I
use/discover which I wish to share with
other teachers?
