ABSTRACT

The main purpose of the researcher is to find out the Effectiveness of Using Flipbook in
Teaching Science as Perceived by Grade IV Pupils of Caridad Ilaya Elementary School, Atimonan,
Quezon S.Y: 2018-2019.

Specifically, the researcher wants to know the following:

1.) What are the Effectiveness of Using Flipbook in Teaching Science as perceived by the
Grade IV Pupils of Caridad Ilaya Elementary School Atimonan, Quezon SY: 2018-2019 in
terms of:
1.1 Learning Objectives

1.2 Content of the Materials

1.3 Instruction of the Science Subject

1.4 Assessment of Pupils Performance

2.) In what aspect does using flipbook in teaching Science is most effective as perceived by
the Grade IV pupils of Caridad Ilaya Elementary School during the S. Y. 2018-2019?

3.) In what aspect does using flipbook in teaching Science is least effective as perceived by
the Grade IV pupils of Caridad Ilaya Elementary School during the S. Y. 2018-2019?

In this study a descriptive method was used to know the Effectiveness of Using Flipbook
in Teaching Science as Perceived by Grade IV Pupils of Caridad Ilaya Elementary School,
Atimonan, Quezon S.Y: 2018-2019. This method of research deals with the interpretation of the
condition effects, relationships and trends of the content situation.

The researcher used purposive sampling. His respondents with a total of 44 are the Grade
IV Pupils of Caridad Ilaya Elementary School. He facilitated the survey questionnaire to the
respondents.

This study used the descriptive method of research in order to describe the nature of the
situation as it exists at the time of the study. The researcher used the questionnaire in accomplishing
this study. After the data was gathered, the researcher tallied and tabulated the data. The data were
analyzed through the use of weighted mean as his statistical treatment of data and was interpreted
by the researcher according to the degree of the responses.

The weighted mean was used to express the degree of frequency of the responses into its
descriptive presentation. The weighted mean was used by the researcher to determine the

FINDINGS
From the gathered data, the major finding of this study were stated below.

1. Effectiveness of Using Flipbook in Teaching Science as Perceived by Grade IV Pupils of


Caridad Ilaya Elementary School, Atimonan Quezon, School Year of 2018-2019 in terms of
Learning Objectives, Content of Materials, Instruction of the Science Subject, Assessment of the
Pupils Performance.

1.1. Learning Objectives

The overall response of Grade IV Pupils of Caridad Ilaya Elementary School on
the Effectiveness of Using Flipbook in Teaching Science in terms of Learning Objectives
obtained the average weighted mean of 4.46, having a descriptive analysis of STRONGLY
AGREE.

The Grade IV Pupils of Caridad Ilaya Elementary School strongly agreed that if Flipbook
is used in teaching Science it is most effective in Learning Objectives with a weighted mean
of 4.46. They strongly agreed that flipbook if used in teaching Science will help the respondents
appreciate learning and develop their positive attitude towards learning science because they
can describe and explain their lesson. They strongly agreed that flipbook helps them retain the
content and recall their past lessons since they can collect and organize idea on Science when
their teacher used Flipbook on class discussion. They can draw the abstract idea they have in
science if their teacher used flipbook in teaching which also have a descriptive analysis of
strongly agree. Also, the respondents strongly agreed that if their teacher clearly communicated
to them the objectives of using Flipbook, they will more likely to achieve the presented goals
and can easily analyze the topic in science.

1.2. Content of Materials


The overall response of Grade IV Pupils of Caridad Ilaya Elementary School on the
Effectiveness of Using Flipbook in Teaching Science in terms of Content of Materials
obtained the average weighted mean of 4.26, having a descriptive analysis of STRONGLY
AGREE.

The respondents strongly agreed that flipbook are effective because they can easily learn
their lessons about life cycle of an animal and motion. They strongly agreed that can easily
understand the practice of safety precautions in disposing waste materials and gain knowledge
about the properties of materials if their teacher presents their Science lessons well using
Flipbook.

1.3. Instruction of the Science Subject


The overall response of the respondents in terms of Instruction of the Science Subject
obtained the average weighted mean of 4.22 having a descriptive analysis of STRONGLY
AGREE.

The Grade IV Pupils of Caridad Ilaya Elementary School strongly agreed that
they find their Science lesson interesting because their teacher illustrates the lesson using
flipbook. They strongly agreed that the use of flipbook in teaching science helps them to
participate in class actively and encourages them to collaborate scientific concept.

1.4. Assessment of the Pupils Performance


The overall response of the respondents in terms of Assessment of the Pupils
Performance obtained the average weighted mean of 4.45 having a descriptive analysis of
STRONGLY AGREE.

The respondents strongly agreed that with the use of flipbook they can answer the questions
easily, respond to the recitation and increase confidence in class. They strongly agreed that they
can collaborate well in group activities because they easily understand the lesson with the help
of flipbook. They also believe that they saw themselves as an active learner in their class and
focused on their Science subject, if their teacher used Flipbook in teaching. They strongly
agreed that they can easily perform the task given by their teacher because they became an
independent learner in Science, every time their teacher uses Flipbook in class discussion.
Lastly, the respondents strongly agreed that they may know their strengths and weaknesses in
Science whenever their teacher uses Flipbook in class.

2. Among the four variables which are Content of the Materials, Instruction of the Science Subject
and Assessment of the Pupils Performance, the researcher found out that if flipbook is use in
teaching Science, it is most effective in Learning Objectives with an average weighted mean
of 4.46 and qualitatively described as “STRONGLY AGREED”.

3. However, none of the aspect of flipbook got the least effective because all of them stand out
with a descriptive analysis of “STRONGLY AGREED”.

CONCLUSIONS
In the light of findings, the researcher therefore concludes that:

1. The overall findings of Grade IV Pupils of Caridad Ilaya Elementary School, Atimonan,
Quezon S.Y: 2018-2019, based from all the given effectiveness if Flipbook is use in teaching
Science occur:

1.1. According to the findings, the respondents strongly agreed that using
Flipbook in teaching Science is most effective in achieving the Learning Objectives.
Therefore the researcher concluded that Grade IV Pupils needs flipbook in learning for
them to appreciate more and to develop their positive attitude towards learning science.

1.2. The Grade IV Pupils of CIES strongly agreed that the effectiveness of flipbook can occur
in Content of Materials like life cycle of an animal and practice of safety precautions in
disposing waste materials that makes the lesson easy to understand. According to them, it
develops their critical thinking skills about motion, changes that matters undergo, how
take care of their internal organs, materials that undergo decay, properties of materials and
can reason out why fish can breathe on the water if their teacher use flipbook in teaching
Science.

1.3. The respondents strongly agreed if Flipbook is used as the Instruction of the Science
Subject, effectiveness can occur even it is the least. Therefore the researcher concluded
that, the teacher of the Grade IV Pupils may use Flipbook in teaching Science for them to
participate in class actively and encourages them to collaborate scientific concept because
they find it interesting if they use flipbook in learning.

1.4. According to the findings, Grade IV Pupils of CIES strongly agreed that the effectiveness
of flipbook can occur in the Assessment of the Pupils Performance. Therefore the
researcher concluded that, with the use of flipbook in teaching science they became an
independent learner that increase their confidence to answer the questions easily.

2. Based on the findings, flipbook is most effective in “Learning Objectives” if used in teaching
Science. The respondents believe that flipbook is effective in helping them to appreciate
learning and to develop their positive attitude towards learning science lesson. Also they
believe that flipbook helps them retain the content and recall their past lessons since they can
collect and organize idea on Science when their teacher used Flipbook on class discussion.
They can draw the abstract idea they have in science if their teacher use flipbook in teaching.
In addition, the respondents regard that if their teacher clearly delivered the objectives using
flipbook, they will more likely to achieve the presented goals and can easily analyze the topic
in science.

3. The researcher concluded that none of the aspects of flipbook is considered as least effective
because all of them obtained the descriptive analysis of Strongly Agree. Thus, it indicates
that if flipbook is used in teaching Science it is an effective educational technology.

According to Wambui (2013), 37% of the teachers of Kiine Zone Kirinyaga County Kenya
indicated that instructional materials help the learners to remember important information
which is very useful in supporting a topic and establishing concrete knowledge.1

RECOMMENDATIONS

The researcher further recommended the following:

TO THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS


● Provide adequate and enough instructional materials that could be helpful for the
teachers to face the different teaching challenges.
● Conduct seminars and trainings for the teachers to develop their teaching strategies and
techniques in promoting better learning with the use of different learning materials.
● Support or give assistance to the teachers in making flipbook.

TO THE TEACHERS
● Do not stop searching to find what are the appropriate instructional materials for your
learners and learning objectives.
● Set a regular evaluation if flipbook can support your lesson every time you teach.
● Familiarize yourself with different kinds of learning materials such as flipbook that
reinforce teaching-learning process.
● Continue the use of flipbook because it enhance creativity within the teacher especially
to the learner.

● Help the teachers to guide and to discipline their children’s attitude and behavior
towards proper handling of things or learning materials around the classroom.
● Tell their children to listen carefully on the instruction of the teacher on how to use the
learning materials so that learning could be maximize with the use of these.
