FOREWORD TO THE SECOND PRINTING

The Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP) main objective is to advance
the practice of structural engineering in the country. The ASEP, through its Codes and Standards
Committee particularly the new NSCP 2015 Committee, constantly reviews and revalidate the
National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP). The NSCP is considered the referral code of
the National Building Code for the structural design of buildings and other vertical structures.
The NSCP 2015 Committee, through its current chairman VP Ariel Santos, had reviewed the code
and corrected typographical errors. Inputs from the academe and practitioners were also
considered in the correction of certain formula and code provisions as previously written.
Commentaries were also amended or removed to differentiate a code provision from an
explanatory note.
This Second Printing maintains the contents of the NSCP 2015 First Printing first published in
2017. Local data from PHIVOLCS regarding fault locations and wind loadings from PAGASA
are maintained. Referenced international codes are still the same as the referred codes in the
original NSCP 2015 publication.
The ASEP shall continue enhancing the NSCP to deliver the state of the art in structural
engineering to the Filipino structural engineers and to the public to ensure public safety and reduce
property damage for a better quality of life in the country.
In behalf of the ASEP Board of Directors, we express our gratitude to the new NSCP 2015
Committee, and to the academe and practitioners who contributed their knowledge and effort to
review and further enhance the 7th Edition.
