CHAPTER I
(INTRODUCTION)

A. INTERNET EFFECTS ON JOURNALISM

The internet-the World Wide Web-has had a major impact on all levels of
information societies throughout the world.
With the advancements in technology more and more people are choosing to
consume their news online or through smartphones and other mobile devices and
this is happening every single day.
For example,in Indonesia people nowadays read a news from
Detik,BaBe,Line Today (Indonesian news application on mobile platform) on their
smartphone, rather than buying a newspaper from magazine store.
B. POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE EFFECTS

Although the internet give so much ease on daily life, there are many positive and
negative effects on journalism side :

• Positive
a) One of the easiest ways of having content distributed on a grand scale
b) It can be updated extremely fast and the web design changed quite
easily
c) Free to access
• Negative
a) ‘Fake’ news
b) Many journalists lose their jobs
c) Privacy violation
CHAPTER II
(VICE MEDIA)

A. FACTS ABOUT VICE MEDIA

Vice Media LLC is a Canadian left-leaning digital media and broadcasting

company. Originating from the Montreal-based Vice magazine, founded in 1994 by
Suroosh Alvi, Shane Smith, and Gavin McInnes (who left the company in 2008).

Vice expanded primarily into youth and young adult–focused digital media,
including online content verticals and related web series, the news division Vice
News, a film production studio, and a record label among other properties. In 2015
Vice Media was called "(arguably) a poster child for new-media success—
especially when it comes to attracting a valuable millennial audience”.

Their headquarters is in Brooklyn,New York (United States). Vice Media

broadcasts one news programs on HBO. HBO currently broadcasts the Emmy-
winning weekly documentary series Vice, which premiered on the network in April
2013. Vice features segments on global issues hosted by Shane Smith, co-founder
Suroosh Alvi, and a rotating cast of correspondents.

They upload their content on YouTube and their official website

B. WHAT MAKES VICE DIFFERENT

The news organization and Brooklyn magazine, Vice, is well known for its
unique journalism style. They gain access to places mainstream media can’t through
their immerse and adventurous journalism. Whether it is Church of Lucifer in
Columbia or meet with Kim Jong-Un in North Korea with NBA legend Dennis
Rodman.

Vice is known for throwing out the standards of old journalism and
immersing themselves in the reality of the stories they cover. Some of the stories
may seem sensationalistic but their dedication and creativity is as eye-opening as it
is unmatched.

Vice, however, argues that they are not sensationalistic. It is the stories they
cover that make them seem sensationalistic but the actual coverage is fact-based.
CHAPTER III
(CONCLUSION)

In this modern era of journalism, the internet really makes a big difference, now

we can directly read or write a breaking news on our smartphone so the news can
be delivered faster, Although there are so many side effects for example a
‘fake/hoax’ news. We must select a news that we want to read carefully so we can
avoid the fake news and didn’t misguided.

On the other hand,it’s really amazing how Vice Media deliver their news,it’s
like they are didn’t afraid to death (because some of their news is directly located in
warzone, controversial place, conflict zone, etc.), and they keep the news delivered as
clear as possible,not exaggerated.
