except calculator and
pencil/pen
Density
• Density = Mass
Vol
• Some common units of density are g/mL, g/cm3
and g/L.
• Ex) How many m3 are occupied by 115 g of a liquid
with a density of 0.97 g/mL?
Temperature
• Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic
energy of a substance.
• Thermometers use liquids which expand or contract
at different temperatures because density changes
with temperature!
• K = °C + 273 (K= Kelvin)
• Ex) If the temperature was 47 oC, what is this
temperature in K?
percent error
• % error = (measured – accepted) x 100
accepted

Ex) If the density of water is measured as 0.965 g/mL

and the accepted value is 0.996 g/mL, what is the %
error?
