Warm-Up 4/25/17

1. Senators and representatives

in a state legislature voted on a
proposed bill. Of the 50
senators, 35 voted for and 15

Scatter Plots and Line of Best Fit

Notes
(Glue in your INB)

The best fitting line or curve is the line

that lies as close as possible to all the
data points.
Regression is a method used to find the
equation of the best fitting line or curve.
Extrapolation – the use of the regression
curve to make predictions outside the
domain of values of the independent
variable.
Interpolation – Interpolation is used to
make predictions within the domain of
values of the independent variable.

Class Work 4/25/17

Start from #1d.

0.71

For every canned beverage sold, there are
0.39 cans recycled.

Day 7 LineofBestFit & Scatter Plot Notes.notebook April 25, 2017

The yintercept is y=1. When there is no
canned beverage sold, there is 1 can recycled.
It makes no sense.

Positive and fairly strong correlation

f(16) = 0.39(16) + 1
f(16) = 7.24
approximately 7 cans

50 = 0.39x + 1
Approximately 125
canned beverages
would have to be
sold for 50 cans to be
recycled.
