Ah’ Teen Block

FINISHED SIZE: 16’’ block

SUPPLIES:
• Dark Brown Print: ⅓ yard
• Teal Print: one 8’’ block
• Orange Print: one 8’’ block
• Chartreuse Print: one 8’’ block
• Red Print: one 4’’ block
• Cream: ⅓ yard

CUTTING:
• From Dark Brown: 2 squares 4½’’, 8 brown/cream
half square triangle units at 2½’’ each, 4 brown/teal
half square triangle squares at 2½’’ each.
• From Orange: 4 squares 2½”, 8 orange/cream
half square triangle units at 2½’’ each.
• From Chartreuse: 2 rectangles 2½” x 4½”,
4 chartreuse/cream half square triangle units
at 2½’’ each.
• From Red: 4 red/cream half square triangle units at
2½’’ each.
• From Cream: in addition to the half square triangles
units listed above, cut 4 rectangles 2½’’ x 4½’’ and
12 squares 2½’’.

CREATING HALF SQUARE TRIANGLE UNITS:


I prefer to trim down my half-square triangles to
ensure accuracy. To do this, cut a square from each of
the two fabrics to 3⅜”. Draw a line from one corner
to the other using a ruler. Stitch a scant ¼’’ away from
this line on each side. Cut along the line using a rotary
cutter and ruler. Press the two units open and trim to
2½’’ square.

ASSEMBLING THE BLOCK:


Press seams open
1. Piece together the top and bottom three rows
following the placement in the block illustration.
2. Piece together the middle two rows following the
placement in the block illustration.
3. Sew the top three row unit to the middle row unit.
5. Sew the bottom three row unit to the middle row
unit.
