Kodaly was the first singing primary school established in 1950 in Kesckemet, Hungary. The Kodaly method is based on the philosophy that all children are capable of musical literacy through singing. It uses folk songs as the foundation for early music instruction and focuses on using only the highest quality musical works. The objectives are to develop children's innate musicality, teach musical literacy, expose them to musical heritage and great works of art music. It takes a child-centered developmental approach with a highly structured sequence of musical skills and concepts.
