COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Internship Report I is a two-semester internship sequence that is part of the Advanced Diploma in
Clinical Psychology (ADCP). This course complements the 18 weeks of supervised practical
experience to be gained parallel to the student’s clinical placement in a mental health counseling
setting or any hospital setting during the spring semester. The course will focus on the learning
with the actual experience of counseling and pscyhotherapy in a practical setting by addressing
specific topics practicum experiences and counseling and psychotherapeutic cases. Topics
addressed will include: anger management, stress management, assertiveness training,
Neurolinguistic Programming; motivational interviewing the professional role of the counselor;
the counseling relationship, ethical and multicultural issues; and other topics relevant to the field
settings in which students are placed. As the semester progresses and students begin to counsel
individual clients , supervision of cases will focus on counseling and psychotherapeutic skills,
case conceptualization, treatment planning, intervention strategies and termination. This Internship
course has the following objectives:

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The main objectives of the Internship Class is to help students in achieving the objectives. Below
mentioned are the objectives serve this goal

1. To introduce students to the practical application of the psychotherapeutic and counseling


skills and theories introduced in their course work.
2. To provide opportunities for students to experience the many dynamic elements of a counseling
and psychotherapeutic relationship; e.g., transference, countertransference, projection,
projective identification and establishing and maintaining boundaries.
3. To provide students opportunities to address the ethical issues involved in counseling and
psychotherapy as they arise and utilize ethical guidelines in practice.
COURSE OUTLINE

The topics that are to be covered in form of class lectures and class presentations are as
follows:

 Anger management
 Social skills training
 Assertiveness training
 Neurolinguistic Programming
 Transactional Analysis
 Schema focused therapy
 Motivational Interviewing

Weekly Logs: Weekly logs that list days and hours at internship site must be signed by the
internship class instructor and submitted at the last class of semester for evaluation.

Case reports Submission

 Return of final checked reports 20th of May 2019
 Final viva voice 11th of June 2019

Internal evaluation of each student shall be based on :

 Management plans of disorders (10 Marks)


 Class presentations (10 Marks)
 Case conference presentations (10 marks)
 Mid term viva (10 marks)
 Maintenance of log books (10 Marks)
