Student
Science Village 2019

S
tudent Science Village is a part of the India International Science
Festival 2019 which is set to unfold at the 5th India International Science
Festival 2019 at Kolkata, West Bengal. The prime goal of Student Science
Village is to provide science exposure to the students from rural India and
make them aware of India’s achievements in frontier areas of Science &
Technology. The Science Village program is linked to the Pradhan Mantri
Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana through which each Member of Parliament
will nominate five students and one teacher delegate from their adopted
village. The nominated students will be from class 9th to 11th accompanied
by at least one teacher. The expected number of delegates is around 3,000.
This will be a lifetime opportunity for the students to be a part of such a
mega event under a single roof. The participating student and teacher will
thus have a number of opportunities:

• To be a part of live hands-on science activities conducted by science

communicators
• To have interactions with the eminent scientists/educationalists/
industrialists from India and abroad
• To see celestial objects through the telescope in the night Sky-Watch Program
• To visit the Mega Science Expo: An exhibition showcasing India’s
achievements in Science & Technology by various Ministries, Departments
and Institutions of the Government of India
• To visit historical places in Kolkata through “Know the City” city tour and
exploring the Science City
• To watch Scientific Films and participate in the workshop on scientific
instruments
• To enjoy the cultural heritage with cultural program
• Cultural exchange between the participating student delegates across the
country and thus, make a strong bond between people.

PM Modi Ji’s Vision for the
Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana

O
ne of the biggest problems for us has been that our development
model has been supply-driven. A scheme has been prepared in
Lucknow, Gandhi Nagar, or Delhi. The same is attempted to be
injected. We want to shift this model from supply-driven to demand-driven
through Adarsh Gram. There should be an urge developed in the village itself.

All we need is to change our mindset. We need to unite people’s hearts.

Normally MPs are engaged in political activities, but after this, when they
will come to the village, there will be no political activities. It will be like a
family. Decisions will be taken sitting with the people of the villages. It will
re-energise and unite the village.

Pradhan Mantri Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana is a rural development

programme broadly focusing upon the socio-cultural development in the
villages, to spread motivation among the people, and for social mobilization
of the village community.

Exchange of Knowledge & Cultural Integration

Science Village will help facilitating cultural exchange between the participating
student delegates from across India and make a strong bond between people
across the country. Student delegates will have an opportunity to showcase
their cultural diversity by presenting traditional art forms, wearing their
traditional clothes during the inaugural ceremony, sharing of knowledge
related to their culture, tradition, festivals etc. This way the student delegates
would get ample opportunity to understand India’s majestic cultural character
and diversity which they have only read in school textbooks!

It’s an opportunity to experience ‘Unity in Diversity’ and ‘Bonding the

Country Strongly’.

Student delegates participating in Science Village will have ample opportunity

to interact with other students and share the day to day activities and
developments in their village/hometown. Science Village has the potential
to create rural empowerment by empowering rural citizens. Representatives
from various Government Departments will be interacting with students.

Students will also showcase their village and present it in the form of a
creative hand designed poster that can be easily carried by the student group
to the Science Village 2019. The following details like general information,
