BURRELL for Mayor – Let’s Move Vernon Forward!

We Need To Change The Growing Perception Of Our Town As A Negative Place To Live, And A
Negative Place To Establish A Business.

Our town’s elected governmental officials’ current negative attacks on each other, both
at council meetings and also on social media forms, have contributed to the perception
of our town as being a negative place to live and a negative place to establish a
business.
The members of our governing body need to accept the fact that they won’t always
agree on everything. I have been married to my wife Reba for 53 plus years, and we
don’t agree on everything.
My experiences in working on boards and committees - - such as my past service on
the Vernon Board of Education, the Vernon Town Council, and the Sussex County
Freeholder Board; plus my current service on the Centenary University and Sussex
County Community College Board of Trustees, and as a Commissioner on the North
Jersey District Water Supply Commission where I currently serve as chairman - - have
all taught me that disagreements are a standard part of the democratic process.
Our governmental leaders should not take every instance of disagreement as a
personal insult. They need to stop creating these unnecessary crises of personalities.
Because when they create these unnecessary crises, and attack each other either at
town council meetings or on social media forms, it makes working together difficult, and
it’s our town and its citizens that loose in the end.
If the people of Vernon give me their vote of confidence to be their next mayor, I will
make every attempt to ensure that the nature of my comments and actions reflect
positively on our town and its citizens, and that they are always focused on moving
Vernon forward! - Howard
