many new Marinas coming up in the country. Currently there is only one marina,
which had started operation in 2010 in India, which is at Kochi, Kerala. Further,
about a dozen new marina projects are at the nascent stage in India. The demand
of Marinas are increasing by every year. The State of Kerala is also becoming a
major destination for marine tourism along with others.

unique culture and traditions, coupled with its varied demography, has made
Kerala one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. With the fastest
growth rate, the tourism industry is a major contributor to the state's economy.

OBJECTIVE

recreational space adjacent to it i.e a Leisure Marina at international standards,
keeping in mind the comfort and needs of the common people and the tourists
visiting the place

DESCRIPTION
The prominence of Marina in Marine Tourism is immense. Marina will
attract more and more foreign tourist to the location and thereby augment the
foreign currency earnings of the country.

through sea route. Marina is one major infrastructure facility, which supports
marine tourism. A marina may have the following facilities apart from berths for
mooring yachts.

• Refueling facilities

• Washing facilities

• Repair facilities

• Ship chandlers

• Stores and restaurants

• Ground facilities

• Parking lots for vehicles and boat trailers

• Slipways or boat ramps to transfer a trailered boat into the water

• Boat hoist well (a traveling crane) operated by service personnel

• Parking

• Picnic areas

• Pubs

• Clubhouses

As Thalassery is an interim location between Goa and Kochi and it is close

to the safer access location for the yacht from Europe, it has the potential to attract
many of the yachts sailing through these routes. Further, the shallow depth and
presence of sand banks along with the rock formations acting as natural
breakwaters make the Sea at the Coast of Kannur calm and safe.

Goa and Mumbai are other major destination for cruise liners. These two
locations are faster becoming major cruise destinations. As the proposed marina at
Thalassery is in between Kochi and Goa, the same has the potential to emerge as
an interim cruise destination.
