Aspirations:

I have always been interested in maths and science, but my interest

developed into a fascination when I studied about genes for the first time.
I was amazed by how small variations in the genome could bring about a
huge change. Biomedical engineering/ Bioengineering is the perfect field
for me to study as I am intrigued by the solutions it may provide to
various health-care needs. I am particularly interested in learning in depth
about molecular and genetic technologies which can be used to control
cell behaviour which can eventually be used to treat diseases by
manipulating these biological processes.Being from a country where
agriculture is the major occupation, I am even more interested in
biomedical engineering/ bioengineering due to its applications in
improving crop technology. Therefore a career in biomedical
engineering/ bioengineering would provide me with the tools to innovate,
collaborate across disciplines and be engaged with the community around
me.

Non-Academic Interests:

Shooting:
Shooting has been an integral part of my life for about 7 years. For me the
sport is equivalent to meditation. Through shooting I have learnt to
immerse myself in the present moment and focus on my shot. While
shooting I am more aware about the slightest movements in my body and
thoughts. It has also helped me become more patient and overcome the
craving of instant gratification. Thus shooting is a mindful activity for me.
The sport has also taken me to various corners of the country for national
tournaments. As a result I am very independent and adaptable to my
surroudings. Through shooting I have learned to move on from my
failures and improve with every opportunity I get which has helped me
grow as an individual.
Teaching Coding to Girls:
As a woman aspiring to pursue STEM fields, I was deeply disheartened
by the gender gap in STEM fields. My journey of teaching girls started in
11th grade when I started teaching maths to girls living in Waghodia on
the terrace of a government housing scheme building on Sundays. Many
of the parents were initially reluctant to send their daughters to study as
they were supposed to be helping with household chores. But soon things
started falling in place. I later became the Chapter Leader of ProjectCS
Girls and started teaching basic programming to these girls. Recently I
began conducting my workshops with the girls of Navprerna. I plan to
continue these workshops in other schools in Vadodara. It gives me
satisfaction to know that through my small efforts I am contributing
towards closing the gender gap by helping girls realise their aspirations
and overcome any sort of sexism they might face.
