“LAPU-LAPU”
The Lapu-Lapu is a set design for musical by Salvador F. Bernal in
Philippines, 1997. This type of stage design was one of Bernal’s greatest
work. The design was look simple yet unique and amazing. The background
is completed with an aesthetic design of slightly big round object and the top
of it is a wooden look like a reverse alibata script. The stage is set mainly of
a three huge curved like waves. The mood and visual effect that this scene
portrays warm mood that can be considered as strong, bravery and war.

I believed that Bernal wanted the audience to feel the mood of the
scene. It explains that Lapu-Lapu was a colonizer, who traveled to our land
by means of ships. Therefore, the whole stage was transformed into wooden
slats shaped into waves. The wooden slats formed the platform for the
actors. Bernal evoked these bodies of water using three huge waves
undulating across the stage.

In the final analysis, the whole stage worked so good, cohesive and
arresting. This is due to the captivating color that Bernal used and the
shapes of object in the stage. The stage relates the scene of Lapu-Lapu and
so far everything was good and amazing.
