I. I.
Beyond the sunset What a friend we have in Jesus,
Oh, blissful morning All our sins and griefs to bear!
When with our Savior What a privilege to carry
Heaven's begun Everything to God in prayer!
Earth's toiling ended Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, glorious dawning Oh, what needless pain we bear,
Beyond the sunset All because we do not carry
When day is done Everything to God in prayer!
II. II.
Beyond the sunset Have we trials and temptations?
No clouds will gather Is there trouble anywhere?
No storms will threaten We should never be discouraged—
No fears annoy Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Oh, day of gladness Can we find a friend so faithful,
Oh, day unending Who will all our sorrows share?
Beyond the sunset Jesus knows our every weakness;
Eternal joy Take it to the Lord in prayer.
III. III.
Beyond the sunset Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Oh, glad reunion Cumbered with a load of care?
With our dear loved ones Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Who've gone before Take it to the Lord in prayer.
In that fair homeland Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
We'll know no parting Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Beyond the sunset In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Forever more Thou wilt find a solace there.
II.
Perfect submission, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
angels descending, bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
[Refrain]
III.
Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with his goodness, lost in his love.
[Refrain]
