CASE STUDY

A cogeneration gas power

plant to produce electricity Banyan
and steam for Singapore Singapore
Alstom has won a contract with Sembcorp to build and maintain a 1 x 400 MW
gas-fired combined-cycle cogeneration power plant on Singapore’s Jurong Island, an
artificial island created as an offshore industrial base. The first unit is currently under
construction, the second unit which is an option under the contract, is in discussion.
With this addition to its fleet, Sembcorp will roughly double its generation capac-
ity in Singapore to over 1,600 MW, strengthening its position in Singapore’s
power market. As well as providing electricity, the new power plant will supply
approximately 200 ton/hr of process steam to the petrochemical and chemical
manufacturing industries located in the Jurong Island area.
Alstom has a strong relationship with Sembcorp, having already built Singapore’s
first cogeneration plant, Pulau Sakra, which began commercial operation in 2001.
The KA26 is among the most efficient and reliable technologies currently avail-
able. With its great flexibility and high part-load efficiency, it is perfectly suited for
Singapore’s competitive electricity market.
