BTQ Safe Sex Olympics Program Proposal November 8, 2016

Who: The audience for this program would be the student body at Upper Iowa

What: The title of this program would be Safe Sex Olympics. The program will contain various
stations that will educate students on different aspects of safe sex.

When: Tuesday November 29th at 8pm

Where: We would like to hold the event in Ballroom B. This will allow enough room for each
station.

Why: BTQ would like to team up with Res Life and give students an opportunity to gain
knowledge when it comes to topics surrounding safe sex. It is a taboo subject that most people
feel uncomfortable discussing. By holding a safe sex olympics, we can establish a fun, safe, and
comfortable environment for students to ask questions, learn things they were unaware about,
and feel prepared when partaking in intercourse.

How: The sisters of BTQ are each assigned a station to run at the event. Each station has
already been approved by the Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life, Jean Merkle.
For this event, we will also be contacting someone from either Riverside or Gunderson to help
assist in giving information to students. It has been expressed to us that students either do not
want to report or do not know where to report sexual assault. By having them present at this
event, students will be able to gain this information. Each of our 8 stations that will be set up in
the ballroom will take students through different tasks or trivia that will facilitate in the learning of
safe sex or pertaining material. This includes self defense and testing durability of condoms. For
this reason, we would like waivers that warn of latex being used and to try self defense based
on ability and that the sisters will not be responsible if injury occurs. At the self defense station,
we have also considered asking for help from Officer Chuck of the Fayette Police Department to
add any additional information of staying safe. This program will be paid for from the sorority
fund. Marketing for this event if passed will be done the week prior to the event and the cove
rented out.
