More than half of all unplanned
machine downtime can be attributed
to misalignment and imbalance.
These problems can also arise in the
use of flexible couplings.

The FAG Top-Laser EQUILIGN is a

system for aligning coupled shafts which
can be used
to significantly increase the availability of
machinery.

FAG Top-Laser SMARTY2

Top-Laser SMARTY2 is an economical measuring device

for the alignment of belt pulleys and chain sprockets.
Through the use of this device, the wear of belts, belt
pulleys, bearings and seals is reduced. Less vibration is
generated and the running time and reliability of the
machinery is increased.

31

Alignment Equipments - SMARTY2

Easy to use
The FAG Top-Laser SMARTY2 can be mounted in just a few seconds. The laser beam can be clearly
seen on the target marks. Once the laser beam is adjusted to coincide with the slots in the target marks,
the machine is correctly aligned.

32

Digital Target mark

The target marks are available in optical and digital

form. In the case of the digital target mark, adjustment Gearbox
values are shown in real time in the display. Angular
misalignments are presented in degrees and the
parallelism offset in mm.

33

Alignment Equipments

Target marks

The measuring instrument is so light, the

emitter and target marks can be easily
attached to non-magnetic drive pulleys
using a strong, double-sided adhesive
tape.

The laser beam emitted by the measuring

instrument is adjusted parallel to the
magnetic holders of the measuring
instrument. If a deviation is found, this
can be checked locally on a flat surface
by the operator and readjustment carried
out if necessary.

The distance of measurement is 10

meters.

Top-Laser TRUMMY2
The FAG Top-Laser TRUMMY2 is an optical-electronic instrument for measuring and setting optimum
belt tension (strand force).

35

Tensioning Equipments

Usage

By means of an impulse (for example by striking the stationary belt), the tensioned belt is excited to
natural vibrations. The individual static natural frequency thus generated is measured within seconds by
the TRUMMY2 sensor using clock pulse light and displayed. (hold device at about 50mm from
measurement point)

Arcanol Rolling Bearing Greases
• More than 80% of all rolling bearings are lubricated with grease
• Inadequate lubrication causes more than 40% of all cases of
rolling bearing damage

ü The grease is subjected to a series of tests in the Schaeffler

lubricant laboratory.
ü The greases are tested thoroughly on our lubricant test rigs FE8
(DIN 51819) and FE9 (DIN 51821),
ü The greases are tested in rolling bearings to determine their
service life, friction and wear characteristics.
Best greases are then selected to
undergo the subsequent tests under
simulated field conditions in far more
complex rolling bearing test rigs.
If the results fulfill the requirements
of the stringent Schaeffler
specifications, the grease is
“decorated”. It receives the Arcanol
seal of quality.

FAG grease gun

In difficult operating conditions or aggressive
environments, rolling bearings must be
frequently relubricated via lubrication nipples.
With the FAG grease gun and the matching
reinforced hose, this operation can be carried out
easily, cleanly and quickly by hand.

FAG metering devices

ARCA-PUMP

The metering devices can be used to provide

grease to rolling bearings in metered quantities in
the range 10 cm3 to 133 cm3.Larger metering
ranges can also be achieved by operating the
devices several times. By means of a
pneumatically driven, double direction piston
pump, the medium is conveyed directly from the
grease container

Reconditioning

n Maintenance cost can be substantially lowered, if used

bearings are refurbished and repaired

n The repair costs and the delivery time are lesser for
refurbished bearings than for new bearings. The exact
price depends on the refurbishing expenditure

n After the refurbishing the bearings are performing as new

ones.

Condition Monitoring and Reconditioning

n The Pinion gear units of a 5 stand cold rolling tandem

mill are monitored by Schaeffler.

n Damages to the bearings of the gearboxes were

discovered at an early stage already several times.

n Due to the early damage detection the bearings could

be exchanged in time and reconditioned successfully.

n The bearings are at the disposal to the plant operator

after the refurbishing as good as new bearings.
