SESSION GUIDE – SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

TITLE: SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Duration of Session: 1 Hour

Key Understanding Social responsibility is an ethical theory, in which


to be developed individuals are accountable for fulfilling their civic duty; the
actions of an individual must benefit the whole of society. In
this way, there must be a balance between economic growth
and the welfare of society and the environment. If this
equilibrium is maintained, then social responsibility is
accomplished.

Learning Objectives At the end of this module, participants should be able to:
1. Explain what it means to be socially responsible and
ethical;
2. Identify the four key areas of social responsibility;
3. Present examples of individual social responsibility;
4. Share/Role play sense of social responsibility both in
professional and personal life.

Resources Laptop, PowerPoint Presentation, Video presentation,


Projector, Speakers, Meta Cards, Bond papers,
Markers/pens, Adhesive tape, Bulletin Boards, Wireless
microphone

Introductory Activity Video presentation depicting both social inequality and


social responsibility (10 minutes)
 7 minutes viewing time
 3 minutes for personal reflection in relation to the video

Activity Discussion Proper (20 minutes)


I. Powerpoint presentation and discussion on what it means
to be socially responsible and ethical.
II. Present to the participants the Four Key Areas of Social
Responsibility namely: Ethical, Economic, Legal, and
Philanthropic

Analysis Group Activity (15 minutes)


Application of Differentiated Instructions
Group the participants into 4 Groups. Each group is
assigned to present a short play showing how social
responsibility is applied in each situation.
Group 1: Ethical Group 2: Economic
Group 3: Legal Group 4: Philanthropic
Abstraction/ Individual Activity (5 minutes)
Generalization The Speaker will present a statement indicating social
responsibility in each situation. With the use of meta cards
and markers, participants will analyze and identify which of
the four key areas does the statement refers to?
Example: Mr. Johnson donates paints for the school fence. –
(Philanthropic)
Application Presentation of Individual Social Responsibility Output
(10 minutes)
(After viewing the video in the introductory activity and
application of social responsibility through short plays, each
participant will write his/her experiences on how they practice
social responsibility both professionally and personally.
(Participants will be given pens and will write their answers
on a piece of bond paper)

Concluding Activity Video Presentation


Social Responsibility simply means being kind and
responsible not only for yourself but for everyone around
you. Let us all be reminded that in our own simple way, we
can make a big difference on the lives of other people, and
that we should take full responsibility of our actions.
