Short Story Extract 30/09/19 1

EXT. NARROW SIDE STREET. HARAJUKU, JAPAN – MORNING

It is a beautiful day in Harajuku. The weather is quite cool due to it

being spring. Harajuku is usually a very busy area. The sun has just
risen, and the busy street is loud, and shops are just opening for the
day.

There are many people sitting inside small restaurants trying to keep
warm before their busy day at work

KAITO walks past a BEAUTIFUL GIRL.

Camera pans around the girl and then goes back to the perspective of
Kaito

The Beautiful Girl is wearing black jeans with a grey jacket with black
converse shoes. Everyone around the girl is also wearing similar dark
colour clothes.

The Beautiful Girl’s hair is black and short, her hair only just covers
her ears and her fringe is just hovering over her eyes. There is a small
kink in her hair from the way she slept. Her hair is also a bit greasy.
KAITO (V.O)
She’s not very young either.
She must be nearly 30.
The camera shows a perspective shot of the boy looking at the girl
walking towards him roughly 50 yards away.
However, I know this girl is 100% perfect for me.
There is a close up shot of the boy’s mouth. Kaito tries to salivate his
mouth by drinking some water. He reaches into his bag quickly to pick up
his see through plastic water bottle.

KAITO (V.O)
Maybe you have your own particular
favourite type of girl. One with slim ankles or big eyes,
or graceful fingers, or you’re drawn for no good reason
to girls who take their time with every meal.

During this voice over, the camera pans and tilts around the Beautiful
Girl and shows her physical appearance, where she has none of these
things, she is obese with sausage like fingers.

The camera also shows shots of a dozen of different women with a variety
of different appearances.
KAITO (V.O)
Sometimes in a restaurant I’ll catch myself staring at
the girl at the next table to mine because
I like the shape of her nose.

Cut to a memory flash of Kaito staring at A GIRL in a fancy restaurant.

She is wearing a bright pink blouse with a black long skirt. Her hair is
short and untidy, as if she has not left her house in days. Close up of
THE GIRL’S nose, which is small and crooked and is covered in freckles.

KAITO (V.O)
Much as I like noses, I can’t recall the shape of hers-
or even if she had one. All I can remember for sure is that she was no
great beauty.
CAMERA PANS AROUND THE GIRL again from different angles, however none of
these angels show her nose.

The camera is now on Kaito and his FRIEND who are chatting is a quiet
café.
The café has a chill vibe, mainly built out of wood. Soft guitar music
is playing in the background. The café is on the second floor of a
building. On the windows you can see rain dripping down.

KAITO
Yesterday on the street I passed the 100% girl
FRIEND
Yeah? Good looking
The Friend takes a sip of hot chocolate and then he wipes his mouth with
his sleeve
KAITO
Not really
FRIEND

What’s your type, then?

KAITO
I don’t know. I can’t seem to remember anything about her
FRIEND
Strange
KAITO NODS IN AGREEMENT
Friend looks around the café whilst taking another sip of his drink
FRIEND
So anyhow, what did you do? Talk to her? Follow her?
KAITO
Nah, just passed her on the street.
