Global Warming
Global warming is an increase in the earth’s average atmospheric pressure that causes climate
change and may result from the greenhouse effect. Global warming is caused by the enhanced
release of carbon dioxide, methane, CFCs, and nitrogen oxides. These gases are trapped in the
Earth’s atmosphere and this causes the temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere to increase.
Hence, this may increase the temperature inside the Earth which results in global warming.

Causes of Global Warming:

1. Burning Fossil Fuels

Burning fossil fuels increase the emission of carbon

dioxide and nitrogen oxides. Fossil fuels are mostly
used to fuel cars and airplanes, in power electricity
plants, and for heating houses. Besides that, it’s also
used to make medicines, cosmetics, plastics, synthetic
fabrics, and lubricants.

2. Deforestation

Deforestation is the act of clearing of trees,

transforming a forest into a cleared land.
Deforestation is usually done to make the land
available for other uses, such as planting
plantations, building houses, etc.… Cutting
down trees reduce the amount of trees available
for photosynthesis, resulting in the decreased
amount of carbon dioxide removed from the
atmosphere. Furthermore, burning the trees will
release carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.

3. Mining Mineral Products

Mining oil, coal, and other

mineral products
underlying in deep beds
allow the escape of
methane, which is a
greenhouse gas, from the
ground. Besides
contributing in global
warming, mining mineral
products may cause in the
infertility of soil.

4. Usage of Aerosols, Refrigerators, and Air Conditioning

Enhanced usage of aerosols, refrigerators, and air

conditioning increase the release of CFC
(chlorofluorocarbons) to the atmosphere. Aerosols easily
scatter and absorb solar and infra-red radiation. This
warms the air and atmosphere of Earth, causing enhanced
greenhouse effect.

Effects of Global Warming:

1. Extreme Climate

A rise in temperature can cause affect climate in

many parts of the world. Deserts will experience
very low amount of rainfall and this can cause
these deserts to be very hot. Tropical areas may
experience violent storms, causing flooding and
tornadoes.

2. Extinction of Animal and Plants

Deforestation leads to the extinction of animals as

deforestation destroys their habitat. In addition,
several species of plants may extinct due to
deforestation. Extreme climate also prevents for
the plants to grow properly as well as the inability
to grow crops, resulting in their extinction.
Extreme climate may also destroy animals’
habitat. For instance, the melting of ice caps in
North and South Pole destroy the habitat for polar
bears, penguins, and other arctic animals.

3. Increased Sea Temperature and Level

A rise in temperature may cause ice caps in many

areas to melt. This would release more water into
the oceans, causing the sea levels to rise. This can
cause a big problem in low-lying area like
Bangladesh as this means that these areas are
more prone to flooding. Besides flooding,
increased sea level indicates that less supply of
fresh water is available.

Solution to Global Warming:

1. Usage of Renewable Sources

Usage of renewable sources reduces the dependency in fossil fuels. This will decrease the
release of carbon dioxide to the environment. This also create a better environment.

2. Reforestation and Managing Forest

Reforestation means the replanting of trees in the forest. This will increase the rate of
photosynthesis, resulting to the increase in carbon dioxide absorption.

3. Imposing Laws

The government should impose law for industries and factories to control the amount of
pollution and greenhouse gases produced.

In conclusion, humans are to blame for global warming due to population growth,
deforestation, and the usage of non-environmentally safe products. Changing the products used
or reducing the amounts of fossil fuels burnt may help fix the problem we produced, enhanced
greenhouse effect. Therefore, we should take a stand in order to create a better world for our
future.
