A rough diamond, golden boy, hot under the collar, down-to-earth, a nosy Parker, a dark
horse, have a short fuse, wet blanket, as straight as a die
1. A long time ago Leonardo Di Caprio was Hollywood’s golden boy.
2. I don’t like going out with Nicole, she’s a wet blanket.
3. He may strike you as a rude person, but in fact he’s just a rough diamond.
4. The new neighbours are a couple of nosy Parkers, they are too curious for my liking.
5. I don't understand why people are getting so hot under the collar about it.
6. The restaurant just needs a chef with a down-to-earth approach to cooking.
7. Mr Yanto, who had a hort fuse, told her to get out.
8. She's a dark horse. I didn't know she'd written a novel.
9. To be as straight as a die, I must admit I didn’t like you at first.

1. Pull sb’s leg= to tease sb in a friendly manner
2. Put on a brave face = to try to look happy /pleasant in order to hide feeling
upset/embarassed
3. Stab sb in the back = to be disloyal to a person, especially to sb who trusts one
4. Make sb’s hackles rise = to make sb very angry
5. Behind one’s back = without one’s knowledge/consent
6. Keep one’s cool = to remain calm in a difficult situation
7. Get sth off one’s chest = to talk about worries /problems in order to gain relief
8. Lose one’s head = to lose control due to panic/anger
9. Chip on one’s shoulder = sense of anger /bitterness because of unfair treatment
10. Get one’s own back = to take revenge
11. Take sb’s point = to accept/appreciate what sb has said
