MATH

Unit 14 Area Social Learning Environments Students will be able to Time 50 minutes per class.
calculate the area of figures
divided into
reclangles/triangles.
Title of the AREA Social Practices of the Language: Vocabulary
lesson Fact family, addition, plus, minus,
equal, subtraction, multiplied, by,
times, set.
Key Achievements Achievements

Solve mathematical problems that involve measuring area and Calculating the area of rectangles, compound shapes, and right-
calculate the area of triangles angled triangles

Curricular Standards Contents

Discuss situations where area needs to be calculated in everyday 1. Area of compound shapes
life, e.g. the size of fields or plots of land, floor areas in house plans, 2. Area of right-angles triangles
etc., and the square units which are appropriate for their
measurement.

TUESDAY
Area and Perimeter

 PRE: Have students to make their general cover for their notebooks and then do mental calculation using multiplications additions and
subtractions.

 WHILE: Write on the board the following note:

The total surface (or the region of square units) that occupied in a closed surface is termed as area. It depends on the
shape of the surface. The distance of the closed shape (or figure) is termed as perimeter. That is, the sum of the lengths of
all edges is known as perimeter.

Different shapes having different areas and perimeter.

Consider a rectangle of length 6 units and the breadth 2 units.

Here, 12 square units are required to cover the bigger rectangle. Thus, the required area of the rectangle is 12 sq. units.
The perimeter of the rectangle is the sum of the lengths of all sides. Thus, the required perimeter of the rectangle is 6 + 2
+ 6 + 2 = 16 units.

POST: Write the next exercises on the board, the students have to copy and answer them

THURSDAY
Area and Perimeter of coumpound shapes

Pre: Do a mental calculation using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Review it as a group exchanging notebooks.
While: Write on the board the following note:

What Is a Compound Shape?

A compound shape is a shape that has an irregular arrangement of sides or angles and must be broken down into
simpler shapes before you can work out the area or perimeter.

Explain students how to get the area and perimeter of this shape and ask for general dubs, you can also put an example of a rectangular
shape with some missing space inside it.

POST: Write the next exercises on the board, the students have to copy and answer them

Assessment
Notebook, worskheets, exercises on the board.
Curricular Adaptations and Observations

Personal explanation and guided process for some students.

* Students are allow to decorate their notes according to their imagination and resources so for each class they may use scissors, color
paper, color pencils, color markers, color pens, stickers etc.

Wednesday
Welcome back

Pre: ask students to make their general cover for social studies notebook including the next information: school, name,
subject, 2019-2020 and a illustration relate to Social.

While: On the board / or cardboard write some of the rules of the classroom: e.g. don’t bullying, respect others, make
you’rw homework, raise your hand to participate, etc; and have students to copy them into their notebooks with a
illustration for each one.

Post: On their notebook, the students are going to make the next chart:
What’s your name?

Where do you live?

What’s your favorite movie?

What’s your favorite dish?

Who do you love the most?

What’s your biggest life dream?

What do you dislike?

What are your school year expectations?

Encourage the student’s to ask at least 5 different classmates, and write their answers.

FRIDAY
Fellowship

Pre: play survival with the students using names of the months, seasons and values.

While: On the board, writhe the next definition of fellowship

Fellowship is a feeling of friendship that people have when they are talking or doing something together and
sharing their experiences.
Then read the story provided by the teacher and ask some questions related to it.

Post: give a separate sheet to the students to make a comic about fellowship in the classroom.
