Abstract
This paper is a reflection on the volunteer experience at Three Square Food Bank. I will be
talking about the work that was done, how it benefits the community and the learning experience
Since high school, I had wanted to volunteer at Three Square, but I never ended up going.
I am glad that I decide to do my ten-hour volunteer service at Three Square. I made sure to get
In the warehouse, there are many jobs that can be done but we have to work in
groups/teams. In my group, we sorted and stacked: different kinds of bread, and canned food on
to shelves they had. We also separated drinks, and snacks into different boxes to make it easier
for the workers to know what they had. Inside the warehouse, they have a lot of canned food,
milk, and juice that are still wrapped in plastic. We had to get rid of the plastic around them and
restack them to make it easier to transport it the kitchen for them to pack into the lunches.
In the kitchen, you help prepare the boxes and pack the lunches. The way you prepare
them is in a type of assembly line. You have three people in each group. This is done in the
morning to make the lunch packing easier in the afternoon. Once everyone comes back from
lunch at one, the kid’s lunch packing starts. The lunches are usually different depending on what
the lunch is, where it is going and what ingredients they have. The lunch packing has an
I noticed that many people volunteer here, there are many from a young age to older
people. Every day there is a group of people, usually from a casino but nevertheless, in the end I
hear at least someone asking if they can come again and how can they sign-up. The experience is
