Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

The Praxis Core Exam is an assessment to check the skill of an undergraduate student in

reading, writing, and math. Before taking the Teacher Preparation classes to earn a bachelor's

degree in education, future educators have to pass the Praxis Core Exam. A passing score for the

reading is 156; writing is 162, and math's passing score is 150.

Exam Preparation

There are many ways to prepare for the Praxis Core Exam. Two books that help to

prepare for the Praxis Exam: the Praxis Core for Dummies, which has much information on how

to prepare before the exam and includes six-full length practice test and the Cirrus Test

Prep Praxis Core Study Guide 2019-2020, which breaks down each subject into type of

questions the tests ask with tips and sample questions. The Cirrus Test Prep Praxis Core Study

Guide 2019-2020 also provides one free in-book practice test and one free-online practice test.

The Cirrus Test Prep Praxis Core Study Guide 2019-2020 recommends practicing the test-taking

skills on a computer since it is an excellent way to prepare for the Praxis Exam, which is

computer-based. Lastly, Khan Academy Official Praxis Core Prep provides free practice for

the Praxis Core Exam. Khan Academy Official Praxis Core Prep has a study plan to follow

leading up to the date of the test. The study plan is in collaboration with the makers of Praxis

Core. Currently, I am using Khan Academy the most since it provides more questions and a

study guide to follow.

Exam Results

In the Teachers Test Prep practice test for math, I received a 74%, which means I am at

the borderline of passing when I take the official Praxis Core Exam. In writing, I got 70%, which

is borderline passing. In reading, I received 50%, which means I need significant improvement

before taking the Praxis Exam.

Future Exam Preparation

To prepare to take the Praxis Core Exam, I will need to focus more on reading. Therefore,

I will continue the Khan Academy. I will be working more on reading since that is the main

priority according to my results of the Teachers Test Prep practice test. In the Khan Academy

Official Praxis Core Prep, I am doing small lessons and taking an exam for each subject, every

two weeks. I will continue to read the Praxis Core for Dummies and Cirrus Test

Prep Praxis Core Study Guide 2019-2020 and take some of their practice tests. I will be taking

the exam in November, and I will be transferring to Nevada State College (NSC) for Spring

2020. If I need to retake an exam, I will be choosing to take a prep-class at NSC where the

course objective is to help students prepare for the Praxis Core Exam.
