(MMRDA), in association with Practising Engineers Architects and Town Planners
Association (PEATA), today conducted a day long workshop to decode Development
Control and Promotional Regulations 2034 at its auditorium which was attended by
more than 200 participants from various organizations including Municipal Corporation
of Greater Mumbai, MMRDA and others.

All the experts – architects, environmentalists and civil engineers – welcomed DCPR-
2034 in general and praised the decision of the government to empower the Municipal
Commissioner to “correct” obvious errors in the DCPR-2034. Mr.Dilip Singhavi,
President, PEATA, was very vocal in welcoming this authorization, “Else, people had to
approach Urban Development Department for small and apparent mistakes”, said
Mr.Singhavi.

Architects Mr.Samir Hingoo and Mr.Manoj Daisaria clarified land use and manner of
development and requirements of site and building permissions as detailed and
improved in the DCPR-2034. Mr.Manojkumar Dubal, Past President, PEATA,
deciphered as to how FSI calculations are now easy to interpret as far as island city,
suburbs and extended suburbs are concerned. Further it was Mr.Yomesh Rao’s turn to
clarify impact of FSI regulations with regard to educational institutes, star hotels,
dilapidated buildings, affordable housing etc. are concerned. He particularly is “looking
forward to the impending FSI regulations in the Metro influence zone”. These
regulations also apply to the housing that is provided to families affected by vital public
infrastructure projects, explained Mr.Snehal Shah.

“MMRDA is very happy to conduct this workshop and open successful discussion on
DCPR-2034. It is significant to note that 3% of our 10% work dedicated to the city
contributes a great chunk to India’s GDP”, said Mr.R.A.Rajeev, Metropolitan
Commissioner, MMRDA. Mr.Rajeev further appreciated Mr.Shankar Deshpande, Chief,
Town & Country Planning, MMRDA, for proactively taking this initiative.

During the day long workshop all the speakers, including Mr.Sandeep Asore, Mr.Shashi
