§ What´s your favorite photo?

My favorite photo is the one taken in 1998 of Michael Jordan in the championship finals,
where the Chicago Bulls disputed the title against the Utah Jazz. This photo represents the
last triumph of the idol of basketball, in which he was prepared to throw his last shot of the
championship, so that he could consecrate and achieve the distinction of the best NBA player.
§ Who took it? When? Where?
Fernando Medina took the photo. This photograph was proclaimed by “Sports illustrated
Americano” as the best picture in sports history. It was taken in the match of the Chicago
bulls against the Utah Jazz, where it was being disputed the NBA finals in the “delta center”
stadium in Utah, united states in the 1998.
What was happening when the photo was taken?
When the photo was taken, Michael Jordan can be seen in suspension, after one of the most
polemic plays in the history of the NBA. Thanks to the mild displacement that Michael Jordan
caused to Karl Malone, to consequently ascend the ground with his characteristic suspension
jump, where he was able to score the two final points that gave the victory to the Chicago
Bulls. Who kept the championship title in 1998 and with this it consecrated Michael Jordan, as
ESPN ensures, the best basketball player in the NBA history.
 § What ideas/themes are dealt with in the photo?
The photo portrays the NBA final of 1998, it focus on the last shot of the match and of
Michael Jordan sports career in the Chicago Bulls. Day when it was disputed his last game in
the championship final and where it would be consecrated his sixth championship title. The
focus is placed in the technical uprising necessary to execute the winning shot, with
background of Utah Jazz fans that are seen expectantly.
§ What do you think the photographer of the picture is trying to say to the viewers?
In the key matches of the NBA are focused on the last minutes of playtime, the
photographer’s in the main players and team captains, players who can generate decisive
actions that achieve altering the destiny of the match, as can be seen in the photo.
The photographer wanted to portray the final instance where a champion transcends into a
legend with that last shot, capturing the exact moment where the determination and talent
make the protagonist shine.

§ What is your reaction to the photo?

My reaction is of astonishment; because of Michael Jordan is my idol, I think that he has the
main meaning of how, no matter the circumstances and an unfavorable score, with
determination and motivation you can always make a comeback. However, it does not only
apply to the game, but also applies to life itself.
