1. Circular knitting needle size 7 (4.5 mm), 24 in. (60 cm)

2. 5 buttons 3/4 in. [19 mm] diameter

GAUGE:

16 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with larger needles. BE SURE TO
CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the
size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient.
If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a
smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or
needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

2/2 RC (2 over 2 right cross) Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold in back, k2, then k2 from
cable needle.

PATTERN STITCH

Seed Stitch (multiple of 2 sts + 1)

Row 1 (RS) *K 1, p 1; repeat from * to last st, k 1.
Row 2 P the k sts and k the p sts.
Rep Row 2 for Seed st.

BACK
With smaller needles, cast on 43 (47, 51) sts. Work in
Seed st for 6 rows. Change to larger needles and purl next

row, inc 13 (12, 11) sts evenly spaced across – 56 (59, 62)
sts. Work in cable pattern as follows:
Rows 1, 5, 9 and 11 (RS): K3, p2, k4, p2, *k6 (7, 8), p2,
k4, p2; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10: P3, k2, p4, k2, *p6 (7, 8), k2,
p4, k2; rep from * to last 3 sts, p3.
Rows 3 and 7: K3, p2, 2/2 RC, p2, *k6 (7, 8), p2, 2/2 RC,
p2; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 12: P3, k2, p4, k2, *p6 (7, 8), k2, p4, k2; rep from *
to last 3 sts, p3.
Rep Rows 1-12 until piece measures 10 (11, 12) in. (25.5

LEFT FRONT
With smaller needles, cast on 19 (21, 23) sts. Work in
Seed st for 6 rows. Change to larger needles and purl next
row, inc 7 (8, 8) sts evenly spaced across – 26 (29, 31)
sts. Work in cable pattern as follows:
Rows 1, 5, 9 and 11 (RS): K1 (2, 3), p2, k4, p2, k6 (7,
8), p2, k4, p2, k3 (4, 4).
Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 and10: P3 (4, 4), k2, p4, k2, p6 (7, 8),
k2, p4, k2, p1 (2, 3).
Rows 3 and 7: K1 (2, 3), p2, 2/2 RC, p2, k6 (7, 8), p2,
2/2 RC, p2, k3 (4, 4).
Row 12: P3 (4, 4), k2, p4, k2, p6 (7, 8), k2, p4, k2, p1 (2,

Shape Neck
Continue in established cable pattern, AND at the same
time, dec 1 st at neck edge every row 6 (10, 12) times,
then every other row 5 (3, 2) times – 15 (16, 17) sts.
Work even until piece measures same as Back. Bind off.

RIGHT FRONT
With smaller needles, cast on 19 (21, 23) sts. Work in
Seed st for 6 rows. Change to larger needles and purl next
row, inc 7 (8, 8) sts evenly spaced across row – 26 (29,
31) sts. Work in cable pattern as follows:
Rows 1, 5, 9 and 11 (RS): K3 (4, 4), p2, k4, p2, k6 (7,
8), p2, k4, p2, k1 (2, 3).
Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10: P1 (2, 3), k2, p4, k2, p6 (7, 8),
k2, p4, k2, p3 (4, 4).

SLEEVE (make 2)
With smaller needles, cast on 21 (23, 25) sts. Work in
Seed st for 6 rows. Change to larger needles and purl next
row, inc 5 (5, 5) sts evenly spaced across – 26 (28, 30)
sts. Place markers after 9th (10th, 11th) st and 17th (18th,
19th) st (center 8 sts between markers). Work in cable
pattern as follows, AND AT THE SAME TIME, inc 1 st at
each edge of every 4th row 6 (1, 0) time(s), then every
6th row 1 (6, 7) time(s) (working inc sts in St st).
Rows 1, 5, 9 and 11 (RS): K to marker, p2, k4, p2, sl
marker, k to end.
Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10: P to marker, k2, p4, k2, sl
marker, p to end.
Rows 3 and 7: K to marker, p2, 2/2 RC, p2, sl marker, k
to end.
Row 12: P to marker, k2, p4, k2, sl marker, p to end.
Rep Rows 1-12 working increases as noted above. When
incs have been completed, work even in pattern until piece
measures 7 ½ (8 ½, 10) in. (19 (21.5, 25.5) cm) from
beg. Bind off.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.

Buttonband/Collar
From RS, with circular needle, beg at lower Right Front edge, pick up and k 28 (32, 36) sts to beg of neck
shaping, place marker, pick up and k 18 sts along Right Front neck edge, 17 (19, 21) sts along Back neck,18
sts along Left Front neck, place marker, 28 (32, 36) sts along Left Front edge – 109 (119, 129) sts. Work
Buttonband/Collar in Seed st as follows:
Row 1 (WS): Work in Seed st across 73 (79, 85) sts, turn.
Row 2: Work in Seed st across 37 (39, 41) sts, turn.
Row 3: Work in Seed st across 39 (41, 43) sts, turn.
Row 4: Work in Seed st across 41 (43, 45) sts, turn.
Row 5: Work in Seed st across 43 (45, 47) sts, turn.
Row 6: Work in Seed st across 45 (47, 49) sts, turn.
Row 7: Work in Seed st across 47 (49, 51) sts, turn.
Row 8: Work in Seed st across 49 (51, 53) sts, turn.
Row 9: Work in Seed st across 51 (53, 55) sts, turn.

Row 14 (GIRL): Work in Seed st, working 5 (yo, k2tog) buttonholes between beg of row and first marker,
with first buttonhole ½ in. (1.5 cm) from lower edge, last buttonhole ½ in. (1.5 cm) before first marker,
others evenly spaced between.

Row 14 (BOY): Work in Seed st to second marker; work 5 (yo, k2tog) buttonholes between marker and end
of row, working first buttonhole ½ in. (1.5 cm) below second marker, last buttonhole ½ in. (1.5 cm) above
lower edge, others evenly spaced between.

Work 2 more rows in Seed st across all sts. Bind off.

Place markers 4½ (4¾, 5) in. (11.5 (12, 12.5) cm) down from shoulder seam on Front and Back. Sew
Sleeves between markers. Sew side and Sleeve seams. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes. Weave in ends.
