Tamre McClelland MD Press Release
During the 1980s, Dr. Tamre McClelland taught eighth grade, earth science, in La Porte, Texas
because of her love of teaching others. Today, her education background serves her well as a
family practice physician where she delights in educating her patients about preventive
medicine to maintain good health and well-being.
“My time in the classroom has proved to be helpful when I explain things to my patients such as
why they need to manage their sugar levels if they are diabetic and why they need to take their
medications as prescribed,” she said. “I hold them accountable but work with them to manage
their medical problems.”
Dr. McClelland will join HealthTexas Medical Group on September 30 at the Perrin-Beitel Clinic.
“I’m excited about working with colleagues again because I had been in private practice for
almost 20 years,” she said. “I learned to become good at managing complex medical issues, but
if it was too complex, I would call a specialist. It’s easier in group practice to ask a colleague for
their opinion. What I like about HealthTexas is they are truly focused on patient care, so I know
it’s going to be a good fit.”
After her stint in the classroom, Dr. McClelland decided to pursue medicine, specifically family
practice because of the opportunity to continuously learn new things. “I like the continuity of
seeing patients and their family members. I also like family medicine in that you’re the start of
their medical care,” she said. “I enjoy getting to know their families and their family history.”
She also specializes in treating women’s health issues and migraine headaches. “Being female, I
have a lot of female patients and can help them with medical problems they might have in
between seeing a gynecologist,” she said. “I also suffer from migraines, so I know a lot about
migraine treatments.”
When not treating patients, Dr. McClelland is an active member of the San Antonio Roses, a
group of volunteers who donate prize money to the Junior Steer Auction of the San Antonio
Stock Show & Rodeo. She and her husband also support the Witte Museum’s South Texas
Heritage Center that houses South Texas historical artifacts and the George West Trail Drivers
Gallery. The McClellands donated their daughter’s 2016 Fiesta gown to the museum for display.
Dr. McClelland graduated from medical school and completed her residency training at The
University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and is board certified.
