Domingo Lamco

Chinese: 柯儀南, Chinese: 柯仪南 About Domingo Lamco (Mercado)


Lam-co (also called Cua Lam, Cua Yi Lam in

Domingo Lam-co settled in Binan, Laguna on the

became a leader among the Chinese community
and was a frequent godfather in baptisms and weddings. He helped in the founding of Tubigan
Barrio, the richest part of the estate.

Domingo married Inez de la Roza, the daughter of his friend, and was much younger than he.
They married in the Parian Church where he was baptized. Their union was blessed with two
children Francisco and Josefa, who died five days after her birth. Francisco was only two when
he lost his sibling.

INFLUENCE OF THREE UNCLES* Rizal had three uncles (brothers of his mother) who played
a good influence in his early life. [1] Tio Gregorio was a scholar and lover of books. He
encouraged Rizal to read good books and think for himself. [2] Tio Manuel was big and strong
man. He aroused Rizal's interest in sports. Thus Rizal learned swimming, rowing, fencing, and
wrestling. [3] Tio Jose, (the youngest brother of "donya" Teodora.) He was educated in an
English college of Calcutta, India. He inspired Rizal to paint, sketch, and make statues of clay.

Dr. Leoncio Rizal Lopez was a physician, who taught at the College of Medicine of the
University of Santo Tomas. He was a member of the José Rizal National Centennial
Commission, during which he amassed a volume of literature about Dr. Jose Rizal. The
collection which was passed on to her eldest child Asuncion Lopez-Bantug. Their family
collection has since been donated to the De la Salle University Library in Manila.
