Background of the Study

Greek Mythology is widely popular across the world for the stories which concern the origin and
nature of the world, the lives of the gods, goddesses and mythological creatures, and how significant
their culture is. The ancient Greeks created the stories about the lives and journeys of the Greek Gods,
known as myths, simply as an endeavor to elucidate nature and all phenomena which were difficult to
explain using modern science and logic. These myths about the Gods were spread around the world by
explorers and storytellers, and later merged with Greek religion. To this day, numerous myths survived
through many writings and through much art. Each of these myths is very unique, and moreover, tells us
much about the Greek Gods. The Greek myths convey to us that these Greek Gods and Goddesses
interacted with humans mainly for personal purposes and sometimes to aid heroes.

The deities of Greek Mythology, possesses magical powers that we do not even know where and
how they possessed those kind of powers. All of us are very curious as to how they gain these. Ancient
Greeks believed that these Gods were able to control life in all its forms. Theogony said, “At the
beginning, there was chaos”, explaining the Genesis of the world, the birth of Gods, the succession of
rulers, the origins of human woes. At the center of Greek mythology is the pantheon of deities who
were said to live on Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece. From their perch, they ruled every
aspect of human life. Olympian gods and goddesses looked like men and women, though they could
change themselves into animals and other things and were vulnerable to human foibles and passions.
The origin of Greek Mythology are the two epic poems written by Homer: The Iliad and The Odyssey.
Statement of the Problem

The relevance of the Gods’ powers to their lifespan.

This study aims to determine and unravel the secrets of Immortality of The Greek Gods and
Goddesses and Identifying Their Powers.

This research aims to answer the following questions:

1. Were Gods immortal?


2. What is the relevance of the Gods’ powers to their lifespan?
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of being immortal and possessing godly powers?
4. Will these Gods and Goddesses use their powers for good or for their selfish needs? How?
5. If these mythological gods were to be true in our world, what will be its impact in our society
and beliefs?

Significance of the Study

The findings of this study will benefit all those students or individuals who are curious about
Greek Mythology. It will help answer those unanswered questions about the topic. We will obtain the
knowledge of their everyday life, cultural heritage, and many more. Greek myths give us a ground to
believe in things we are not likely to ever have the chance to experience. They give modern mankind a
baseline foundation to maintain eternal values of heroism. Myths play an important role in cultures of
all nations and civilizations.

It can give you the awareness of the advantages and disadvantages of possessing astonishing
godly powers. And what will be its impact on our culture, society and beliefs if they were to exist in our
world today. You will also be able to know the different god and goddesses of Greek Mythology and how
they are significant and what kind of powers do they possess each. This study will give us all the
information regarding the Greek Mythology.
