Part I: Interpreting A Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&Id)
SENSOR: Thermocouple
o Furnace – extreme temperature
ACTUATOR: Pneumatic Piston that controls exit
flow valve at certain temperature,
Activity A: Interpretation and Construction of a Piping & Instrumentation (P&ID) 2
Pressure Controller -
accepts data and
interprets it and transfer
it to an actuator to
control a value that
would release
components inside the
reactor to control
pressure inside.
SENSOR: Pressure Gauge
ACTUATOR: Pneumatic actuator that opens or closes the pressure control valve.
Temperature Controller –
accepts data and interprets it
and sends signals to an
actuator to control a heat
exchanger once a set
temperature is reached.
SENSOR: Thermocouple or RTD’s
ACTUATOR: Pneumatic piston that activates the heat exchanger stream to increase
the temperature of the recycled bottom stream when its temperature decrease below
the set value.
