As the new year unfolds and we all have expectations for
the outcome, let me thank my colleagues for their support as your LONG RANGE PLANNING COMMITTEE (JOINT)

Our agenda is fairly straightforward, and that is to keep QUALITY CONTROL/ EXTERIOR MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE
our Owners aware of our continuing progress and to relate the (JOINT)
economic climate as it affects our day to day operations. Most of Gus Daal, Chair
our property improvements were made over the past 5 years and George Bruns, Rolf Ramelmeier, James Moyes
now it is time to reflect and fine tune our “internal operation”,
whether it is cost reflective or procedural. BOARD OFFICERS
President Jerry Hempenius
We are currently looking at the heat pump issue in terms Vice President Lou Genett
of long term savings of operational cost. A trial group of units are Secretary James Moyes
in the process of going on-line as CCIOA is working on cost and Treasurer Mark Barra
effectiveness. As has been indicated earlier, via letter to all
Owners, the water heaters are all near their intended life and we
are recommending replacement property wide. Timeshare
organizations are in the process of replacing their water heaters
and we urge each whole Owner to focus on this issue, as a leaky
water heater can do damage to other than your unit and can reflect
a liability to the unit Owner (refer to letter of 12/06/09 to each
whole Owner unit for replacement information).

Heat pumps can be added later, once a determination is

made by the CCIOA Board that the “test” is completed. More on
this issue as it develops.

Our Treasurer reported that our outstanding receivables

are up over last year. Your Board is aware and reacting to the
needs of the Association through collection processes. We must
have our “dues” income to pay for infrastructure, management,
and overhead. This is the economic pendulum we must stay
aware of to keep the Association solvent.

As usual, we still have some Long Range items pending.

To name a few: Solar (campus-wide); Recreational Building
status; Health and Fitness space proposal; Expanded
Landscaping; Entry-way Identification project; and Nature Trail. As
these items develop to fruition, we will keep you posted. Long
Range Planning is an important aspect of continuing our review of
“needs” and “wants”.

Lastly, I would like to pay tribute to our Staff and sister

organizations, who work relentlessly to constantly provide a better
product for all the Owners of our twenty-two acre campus.
Thank you for your support

transfer fees or maintenance fees; however, these intervals are July 27, 2011, CLIFFS AT PRINCEVILLE

Over the past several years, some of you have gotten to know
the Cliffs’ controller, Julie Monroe. I’m sure that a number of
other articles in this newsletter reference the fact that Julie has
recently left her position at The Cliffs to relocate to California.
Julie’s contributions to The Cliffs Resort were extensive. She
handled our financials, audits and monthly reports with such
expertise that the Board of Directors never had to worry. We
will certainly miss her and the great work that she did for us.
Sheila Berry is the new controller at The Cliffs Resort. I am
confident that Sheila will do an excellent job.
It is with tremendous sadness that I have to communicate some
very sad news to you. Earlier this month, long time CRVOA
Board member, Terry Cannings, passed away. I have worked
with Terry on the CRVOA’s Board of Directors for well over ten
years. Terry not only possessed a great sense of humor but he
also was an invaluable member of The Cliffs Resort Board of
Directors. His insight and intellect will be sadly missed by all of
us who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him. He
was truly a great person.
Terry was born in Australia and was a pioneer in the field of
education. Terry was an administrator, researcher and
professor of education for more than 20 years at Pepperdine
University. During his career, he also taught at Azusa Pacific
University and California Lutheran University. Terry did his
undergraduate work at the University of New England and
received his Masters in education from the University of Sydney.
He was the recipient of numerous awards and citations and was
widely published on topics relating to public education.
Terry and his wife, Judy, loved The Cliffs and Kaua’i. Terry
was a one in a million and will be sorely missed by all who knew
him. 
