ABSTRACT

Acne is a common skin problem caused by dirt and bacteria from the

environment. Study shows that most of the people experiencing acne problems are teens.

In remedy to this chronic skin problem, the study aims to produce an organic antibacterial

soap. The researchers wanted to prove that oregano extract is an effective antibacterial

soap and efficacious in treating common skin problem which is acne. The research only

focuses on the effectiveness of oregano extract (Coleus amboinicus Lour.) as antibacterial

soap on treating acne. The researchers set only limited and selected tester to test the

study.

The oregano leaves contain antioxidant and antibacterial compounds that can treat

acne. Fresh oil ingredient contains carvacol and thymol which are fungicide and

disinfectant. So, the researchers come with the study in making it as an effective

antibacterial soap. To test its effectiveness the researchers, use respondent’s face as their

subject. Right part of the face was being washed with oregano antibacterial soap and the

other part washed with commercial one. Results shows that oregano extract as

antibacterial soap reduced the redness and lessen the abscesses of the acne, and there

were no harmful side effects being recorded. Comparing the results of the trial, oregano

antibacterial soap leaves skin smooth and soft than the commercial one, which leaves

skin compacted, rough and dry. Therefore, the researchers conclude that the oregano

extract is effective as an antibacterial soap.
