Identify two strengths of the Philippines that may contribute to a greater

integration among countries in the Asian region. Explain. (pg. 87)

One of the advantages of the Philippines is the English speaking force in

the country. English is taught in schools and is one of the official languages
in the country. With this skill, we will have a more skilled work force and
a more likely greater integration not only in Asia but also in other countries
if possible. The second advantage that Philippines has is that the
Philippines is rich in natural resources. Its fertile plains and rich valleys
produce a variety of crops for local consumption and for export. The major
agricultural producs are rice, corn, coconuts, hemp (abaca), rubber, sugarcane,
tobacco, fruits, vegetables, and coffee. While the Philippines has much to gain
from being part of an international economic integration, ASEAN Econmic
Community expects the country to become an integral part of the regional value
chain especially in the manufacturing and agriculture sectors. With our
advantage in natural resources, we can cope with the expectations of ASEAN.
Choose one Filipino global corporation. In an essay, discuss its history,
worldwide reach, and attributes as a global corporation.
Jollibee is a Filipino multinational chain of fast food restaurants owned
by Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC). Its history goes way back in the year 1975,
where Tony Tan Caktiong and his family opened a Magnolia ice cream
parlor in Cubao, Quezon City. The outlet later on started offering hot meals and
sandwiches upon demand from customers. When the food items became more
popular than ice cream, the family decided to change the ice cream parlor into
a fast food restaurant which became the first Jollibee outlet in the year 1978.
Their management consultant, Manuel C. Lumba, advised the family on the
change in strategy. Jollibee started out with five branches in 1978. Now there are
Jollibee branches outside the Philippines other countries in Southeast Asia, Hong
Kong, Mainland China, the Middle East, North America, Canada, and Italy.
Jollibee Food Coporation’s core business is the development, operation and
franchising of its quick-service restaurant brands. They plan to achieve their
business goals not only in the Philippines but around the world. The company is
ambitious and highly active in their work. However I noticed they are a kind of
greedy due to their issue of not regularizing their workers.
Is Economic Globalization a Unity or Division?
Globalization, in economic terms, is the spread of products, technology,
information, and jobs across national borders and cultures. It describes an
interdependence of nations around the globe fostered through free trade. Global
economic integration is widely known to decrease trade expenses, enhance the
accessibility of products and services, and boost consumer buying power in
member countries. Employment opportunities tend to enhance since market
expansion, technology sharing, and cross-border investment lead to free trade.
With these benefits, we can say that global economic integration unites us.
