The Live Healthy Iowa Kids organization took up the mantle of the Hershey®
Track and Field Games after they discontinued the famous meet in 2015. Now, Iowa is
the only state that has chosen to continue on the tradition of its predecessor.
“When we heard that the Hershey® Track and Field Games was discontinuing,
we knew that we had to pick up where they left off,” said Katie Kramer, the Iowa games

that requires no special equipment to participate. Partnering with parks and recreation

Events at the local Ames meet will include a host of running events, ranging from sprints,
to distance races, to relays. Of course, standing long jump and ball throw will represent
the field events. The first place finishers of each event will get the chance to compete in
Marshalltown on June 22, 2019 in the Championship event.
Not only will kids have the chance to compete with and against their friends but also
being active and involved in sports provides many benefits to kids. Having kids active in
sports helps develop skills like discipline, respect, learning how to lose and patience. On
the physical side, sports help develop bone development, body composition and building
a healthy heart [https://nobelcoaching.com/sports-benefits/].

Media Pitches
Here is my pitch for the Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championship meet happening in
Ames, Iowa on May 15, 2019. Let me know your thoughts and if you have any other
thoughts or questions. Thanks! Emily Coghill
Ames Middle School will be hosting the Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championships
for the first qualifying round to attend the state meet in Marshalltown on June 22, 2019.
The event is for ages 6 and under, and 7 to 14. This story would include writing about the
qualifiers for the state meet and following other major events in the competition. This
story is important and should be written because this is a state-wide meet for kids to
participate in and be introduced to the sport of track and field.

for the first qualifying round to attend the state meet in Marshalltown on June 22, 2019.
The event is for ages 6 and under, and 7 to 14. This story would include talking about the
importance of getting kids active in sports and would also follow the qualifiers to the
state championship meet. This story is important to write because inactivity in kids is
becoming an issue in today’s society; to get the word out on why activity in kids is
important could help decrease the numbers of inactive kids.

The event is for ages 6 and under, and 7 to 14. This story would include giving the public
information on the event and how the city of Ames can get involved. This story is
important to report because for a lot of kids, hearing the news on this event could get
them active in a sport for the first time and that could lead them to developing a love for
sports and being active.
