Teacher Liz September 2019

Muhammad Ali, today you told me you had built a Mosque. I love that you have a strong
connection to places that are so important to your faith in Islam.
You spent considerable time on your building and I could that you built the blocks with
purpose, you knew how you wanted it to look. You had to take care that it would balance
and not fall over! So then you decided to build leaning on the fence.
You were proud of your work and called on other children & teachers to see your Mosque.
You choose to build a Mosque, it clearly shows that its important to you. You incorpo-
rated your culture & identity into your play. you were able to adapt and change your plan
as you encountered the issue of balance. You were able to problem solve to resolve the
problem.
You explored the ideas of:
Balance, connecting objects, design, problem solving , evaluating your own work, resili-
ence and independence.
Te Whariki also highlights the importance “Children learn
through responsive and reciprocal relationships with people,
places, and things.”
Our planning is also currently
focussed on culture & identity,
so you will have lots of opportu-
nities to explore ideas, places
