The company basically undertake structural design of all kinds of RCC structures, steel
structures and prestressed concrete structures. The company has the small diverse group of
professionals providing structural engineering services with skill, knowledge, ability and

CHAPTER 3
The Structural system for Building consists of RCC framed (Columns, beams &
slabs) structure. An independent 3D analysis was carried out using software packages
STAAD.Pro v8i. The structure was analyzed as a three dimensional frame for dead load,
live load, and their combinations. Also suitable codes have been used to analyze the
structure.
3D-Rendering-Whole Structure
Used Sections:
The Sections used for the RCC Frame Structure are as follows
Roof Slab
Beam Sections(assumed) Column Sections External Walls Thickness
(assumed)
230mmx380mm 230mmx380mm
230mmx450mm 230mmx450mm 230mm 150mm
Analysis and Design of RCC Frame Structure is worked out by STAAD PRO-v8i.
1) In STAAD file, structure is modelled as a 3 dimensional space frame with
(G+2) provisions, and Analysis and design is carried out as per IS-456 (2000).
2) Concrete Grade as per the client is M20 and Grade of steel used is Fe-415.
Therefore the Young Modulus E used is 5000× sqrt (20) = 2.236x10^7 kN/m2,
SBC of Soil as per the soil testing report= 22T/m2 at a depth of 2.0m GL
And Poisson ratio is 0.3 and Density of Concrete used is 25kN/m3
After assigning the load, the next step is to analyze the structure to see results for design
of footing, plinth beam, column, roof beam and slab.
Design of column
In this project I have designed the ground floor beam by taking the bending
moment and shear force value of beam at mid span, left support and right support. And
then substituting this values in excel sheets to determine the area of steel required. The
following figure represents the ground floor beam number in STAAD.
To get the bending moment and shear force value in STAAD, we need to go in
post processing mode. And then in post processing mode by clicking beam and graphs
command, we are able to see the bending moment and shear force value for beams.
Then substitute these values in excel sheet to get the steel required.

INTERNSHIP REPORT 2017
CHAPTER 4
INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES
Internship can be best expressed in a way as a class held off the college campus
for better & enhanced understanding of the practices being followed in professional
environment. Internships give students the opportunity to gain valuable applied
experience and make connections in professional fields they are considering for career
paths and give employers opportunity to evaluate their talent.
We all know that practical experience is the best and I feel that quality internships
are essential to develop key skills that we can’t get in a classroom such as multitasking,
communicating, learning to deal with diversity and dealing with deadlines are different
when we are working for someone else, not ourself like we do in college. Internships are
also great way to network with people in industry.
I spent the last two months doing the internship and I learnt more than expected. I
was constantly learning and getting involved in many aspects of the company such as
learning various software’s like STAAD.Pro, BUILD MASTER etc.
4. Learnt how to set sizes of beams, slabs by using few predefined standards &
thumb rules.
5. Learnt to interpret the analysis results from STAAD Pro.
6. Designed various structural members manually & using MS-EXCEL using the
analysis result from STAAD Pro.
7. Coordinated with the drawing department for proper structural detailing as per
design standards.
4.2.2 Upgrading Theoretical Knowledge
It is seen that theoretical knowledge gained in classrooms is sufficient only to
understand basic concepts of construction & design, it is necessary to understand
practical problems & to provide innovative solutions. Internship helped me to
upgrade my knowledge in following ways:
1. Learnt how to interpret & understand the drawings of architectural &
structural plans.
2. Learnt various aspects of load cases & combinations.
3. Structural design of various members, its application & advantages.
4. Report writing.
Team playing skills work for design & construction, especially for engineers,
involving in every piece of task is essential for effective completion of tasks & for
efficient results. In the field of design & construction work assigned is always a team
work & working in team is very challenging as it involves dealing with co-workers or
colleagues who come from differen background. Developing understand with them is the
main challenge to overcome to be a successful team player. Internship helped me to
improve team playing skills as I got to work in a team with different professionals.
The concept of work ethics may be summarized as the overall quality in one`s behavior
towards appreciating the process of work flow & performing the job well. During my
internship program, I performed my jobwork with high spirit & enthusiasm so that there
was smooth flow of activities in office. Elements of work ethics worth mentioning are-
Punctuality, honesty, office discipline, reliability, co-operation & responsibility.
CONCLUSION
This training has enhanced my knowledge about the environment which is present in
a company. The entire period of 8 weeks proved to be a good source of practical
exposure. At the end of 8 weeks I feel myself better equipped & trained to face the
problems in the field of construction of design. I came to know that what environment
prevails in office and site. This training helped me a lot in bridging the gap between the
theoretical and the practical aspects of my knowledge. I also came to know that what
ethics are followed by everyone in an organization. Through site visits I came to know all
the major and minor aspects of constructions. I also feel that this internship program has
given many valuable things both in form of technical & non technical outcomes. In the
end, I feel more confident & independent.
