Homonym bingo

Skill/concept: Vocabulary
Learning outcome(s)
 Identify homonyms as words with same spellings and pronunciation, but
different meaning.
 Identify and use homonyms in sentences
Warm up
 Write these sentences on the blackboard:
1. He bought her a diamond ring.
The lion jumped through the ring.
2. She was charging a fair price for her articles.
I want to visit the country fair this Sunday.
 Now ask the learners to find the difference between underlined words
 Ask them to identify what these words are called.
 Accept all responses and explain these words are called homonyms.
 Explain that:
o Homonyms are words that sound like one another but have
different meanings.
Activity:
 Ask learners to open vocabulary junction in the Mcb
 Ask them to give examples of use of homonyms in sentences of their own
and write them on the blackboard
 Encourage them to think out of the box
 Discuss the task given in the word play of the book
 Ask them to complete the same
Closure:
 Recap the concept of homonym
 Assign worksheet (homonym) in workbook
Note: It is an optional activity to reinforce the concept, the teacher may or may
not conduct it in the class.

Vocabulary Game
 Inform learners that they are going to play homonym poker.
 Distribute poker cards given at the back of the module and explain:
o Sentences will be read out one after another
o Identify the meaning of the highlighted word and see if the
meaning is on your cards.

 Read the sentences one after another stressing on the homonym so that
the learners can identify the word.
 Let each learner submit their cards
 Ask them to make sentences with the homonyms.
