46. Learning is a process of forming, testing, or revising hypothesis. When one learns new
information or a new task, he tends to make changes on what have been in his mind through
his newly learned information. For learning to take place, there should be a union between the
new knowledge and the old knowledge.

47. Philippine and American good manners show various similarities as well as differences. Both
types of behavior aim to put the other person at ease. Both are sign of innate sincerity and good
will. In speech, however, lies the difference. The American is frank, open and straight forward
while the Filipino is timid, hospitable and over polite. The American sits at the dinner table
with his guest whereas the Filipino, generally, serves his visitors first and eats with his family
later. The Filipino offers his guest the best seat, the most delicious food, and the most
comfortable bed in the house, all the while showing by word and action his humility, kindness,
and sincerity.

48. Mt. Makiling is a difficult mountain to climb. As one ascends beyond the first hundred feet,
the jungle becomes thicker. Leeches are everywhere on the trails. However, there are no deep
ravines, no treacherous holes. The last one hundred feet is the hardest portion of the climb. But
once the climber reaches the peak, he feels the sweet invigorating, cool air of Mt. Makiling.

49. Pinakbet is a famous Filipino dish. It consists mainly of these three vegetables: ampalaya,
eggplant, and tomatoes. For flavoring, ginger and onions are added to mixture. All the

dish.
