Bi-Weekly Narrative Report

Write your narrative reflection report here under each heading:

Activities: Give a summary of the best parts of your internship during this report period.
Describe the experiences you have encountered during this period which are indicated in your
log. Also explain the goals/objectives you have accomplished this report period.
I feel this far into the fieldwork the ACT students have become acquainted with me and we are
comfortable working with each other. The RT at the VA is not the nicest as I asked her a week
ago if she could sign something for another class I had but when I asked she sounded kind of
defensive about it. Although, its just for homework it is okay because I made friends with
another RT. This taught me that the connections you make with people should be with more than
just one source. I noticed how each ACT student works one specifically tries to be lazy while the
other takes her time to do things accurately.

Challenges/Problems Encountered: During this report period, what have been the most
challenging parts of the internship (having to attempt things you have never done before)? What
problems are you experiencing (things you see as concerns and/or things you don’t want to
repeat)? What have you learned from these challenges or problems?

The challenges is waking up to make it at 8:00AM. As I stated above about the RT I asked to
sign off something for a project. It was kind of a first look at rejection, however, I realized I will
encounter this issue more times in my future career. The only solution is to keep driving forward
and make more connections. Another way to correct it, is to not take things so personally in a
work place. I met another volunteer and she was just stating her opinion on a topic and although
we did not agree I did not take offensive because it doesn’t affect me personally. However, she
apologized for sounding really offensive and I told her it was okay because I knew it was her
opinion and its fine because it does not bother me in anyway.

Theory to practice: How has your academic degree been helpful? What have you learned in
your internship during this report period that relates to courses you have taken in the Recreation
Major? What insights have you gained?

Not academically, but more of my experiences with people from jobs to friends really helped me
out this round. I’m trying to stay positive in what is to come I feel as though one just must show
that they are excited to boost the mood of everyone else in an appropriate way. Not everyone is
in the mood to work in the mornings so I just need to be able to show these people that I can
relate with them that way we can work together.

Career and Professional Growth: Describe how this report period has assisted you in your
career and professional growth as a Recreation professional.

I feel that this is really exposing me to people I may encounter or even an easier level of the
behaviors of people obeying what they are told. I think this is just a great way to start some
place. I like how it has made me more outgoing than I was before. I feel open to talking to
anyone. We had a sexual harassment issue earlier in the month. I did not think it was an issue so I
never reported it, however, my boss asked me to file a report so I’m in the process of that. It is
funny because I just learned about this in my other Recreation class. I think learning proper work
manners is essential because if I want to not only be hired in the field but continuous grow with
the job that I am to accomplish I must fit best with the workplace as best as I can.

*Networking: What people did you meet during this report period that are an important
part of your internship and professional growth? Why are they important to you? (i.e.
key staff, administrators, key clients/vendors, donors/sponsors, colleagues in the field)

So, this week, I introduced myself to another RT because the other RT from the week before
came off kind of rude. Just by doing this, that RT gave me his number so I can contact him for
help for my other project. This showed me that if. I cannot find a solution in one person I could
look for it in another.

Is there anything else you would like to communicate to your faculty supervisor during this
report period?
