ALL ABOUT CANADIAN IMMIGRATION

Canada is one of the few Countries which has been consistently rated, by the UN as one of
the best Countries in the World to live in. Moreover, geographically, Canada is also the second
biggest Country in the World which is rich in Natural Resources including Oil, ranking behind
to only Saudi Arabia. In spite of being gifted with abundant Natural Resources, the real estate
market in Canada has been relatively lower in comparison to other developed nations. Thus,
the cost of living in most Canadian cities are affordable keeping in mind the other developed
cities / nations in the world. If it has been your dream to live and work in Canada then Career
Overseas is “The Place” for you. And yes, what better time to tune in to us than this when it
seems to be raining “Invites” for Canada!!
What is Canadian Immigration all about?
You can immigrate to Canada in many ways but here, we will discuss only the major 3 ways
to immigrate to Canada through the popular Express Entry system and they are:
Federal Skilled Worker: A Federal Skilled Worker, as the name suggests is for people who are
skilled and fall under the occupations specified in the A, O, B list as prescribed by the
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). Skilled workers are people with skilled professional
work experience who are chosen as permanent residents based on their ability to contribute
to the Canadian economy
Federal Skilled Trades Program: A tradesman or skilled tradesman is a manual worker in a
particular trade or craft requiring skill (i.e., the "skilled trades"). Tradesmen are contrasted
with unskilled workers (laborers), agricultural workers, and professionals (those in the
learned professions). If you're a skilled worker such as an electrician, welder, plumber,
carpenter or motor mechanic, you may apply for a Federal Skilled Trades Program.
Canadian Experience Class: The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is an immigration category
for Canada's foreign workers who wish to become permanent residents. Temporary foreign
workers are ideal candidates for Canadian immigration (permanent residence).
Eligibility Criteria: The question that crops up in the mind now is – “Am I eligible for Canadian
Immigration”? To check if you actually eligible for Canadian Permanent Residency (Which can
be either Federal Skilled Worker or Trades Worker or Experience Class), the following are the
basic questions you need to answer:
- Are you between the age limit of 18 to 47 years?* (Above 47 yrs can also apply)
- Are you a Skilled Professional or a Tradesperson?
- Do you have Graduation or a Diploma?
- Your ability to communicate well in English Language?
- Do you have at least 1 year of Work Experience (depending on the Skill Assessment)?
Do you have Canadian Experience (Min 1 year) or Canada Education (Min 2 yrs)?
If your answer is in the positive for all the above questions then you have a good chance to
qualify for Canadian Immigration
What are the steps in Canadian Immigration?
Education Assessment: The first step in Canadian Immigration is to get your education
assessment through an Assessment Body prescribed by the Canadian Immigration. The
Assessment charges can vary between 220 CAD to 550 CAD, depending on the Assessment
Authority. The timelines can vary from 1 month to 2 months (sometimes can be less than a
month as well) depending on the Skill Assessment Authority.
Expression of Interest (EOI): On receipt of positive education assessment and other
requirements, you need to submit the Expression of Interest. There is no charge for the EOI.
However, In case you are applying for any provincial nomination, then the concerned province
may charge about 0 CAD to 1500 CAD. The time lines can vary from 1 month – 6 months (or
extend further as well). The EOI, by itself is valid for one year
Visa Application: On receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA), you need to apply for the Visa. The
cost is 550 CAD + 490 CAD for Primary Applicant, 550 CAD + 490 CAD for the Spouse or children
above 22 years*(based on certain criteria) and 150 AUD per child below 22 years. The time
lines can vary from 2 months to 4 months, on submission of Visa Application.
