Ex2 : Write a summary of “The Stairway” (page 61).

Imagine that you are telling a

friend the story. Include the important information, but write as few sentences as
possible. Write no more than five sentences. Use these questions to pick out the
important points.

I lived in a house with a strange atmosphere. There was staircase which was
dark, jarring and quite narrow, and its steps are a bit tall for me to climb. At the top of
the stairs, there was an elegant middle-aged woman leaning against the wall. The woman
wore a beautiful dress with a pattern and a blue color, and her peaceful eyes looked at
me every time I went up the stairs. I imagine that the dwarf at the top of the stairs is my
mother. The first memory when I was two or three years old. By the time the I moved,
my aunt lived in the house and used the mannequin to design the skirt, I realized that it
was not a human or my mother as I always thought.

Ex 3 : Write a paragraph of 130-150 words to describe your cafeteria (topic 3-p.63)

 I would like to tell some words about one of my cafeteria. It is a small cafeteria,
which specializes in serving coffee and desserts with a small and simple dining room.
The interior of this cafe is rather cosy and comfortable which helps to create relaxed
home atmosphere. Inside the cafeteria one can observe several small wooden tables
without tablecloths, wooden chairs and nice soft sofas. There are stands with sugar, salt
and paper napkins on the tables. Near the entrance, there is a large mirror, therefore the
visitors have an opportunity to look at themselves. Along the walls are wooden cases
with some pictures and photos. The customers also can hear ostentatious and melodic
music there. They can can find different types of coffee there - espresso, capuchino,
latte, black coffee, coffee with cognac, liqueur and some others.
