Introduction to the Report

The report is designed to provide a summary of underground water system. Safe water supply
is a critical issue due to highly arsenic-contaminated groundwater in Bangladesh. As a result,
the demand for it is much higher than its supply. Deep tube well is the most suitable safe water
option as it is affordable and user-friendly. In view of this, we visit PNG (BD) Limited which is
located at Korerhat, Shattaroa, Jorargonj, Mirsharai, Chittagong, Bangladesh. The report is
made on the basis of onsite assessment and existing underground water system in PNG (BD)
Ltd. They installed two deep tube well which supply safe drinking water for factory worker and
residential use.

Underground Water System in PNG (BD) LTD

Technical details:
PNG (BD) Limited which is located at Korerhat, Shattaroa, Jorargonj, Mirsharai, Chittagong, Bangladesh has
installed two deep tube wells to provide safe drinking water for their worker and their residential use. Those
two tube wells were installed with a view to water lifting target of 0.04 cusec. One of them is located behind
of canteen area another is located in front of the compressor room.
Deep Tube well generally installed in deep aquifer passing over two impervious layers. We found the wells
have a depth of 180ft & 600ft respectively. Distance between them is 190 ft. Here, for Deep tube well -1, we
found 1” boring pipe used to lift water with 1.5 HP Submersible Pump. And for deep tube well-2, we found 1”
boring pipe used to lift water with 1.5 hp submersible pump. Daily aim of lifting water is 15 m3.

Storage system: The lifting water using two pumps are stored in one underground reservoir. The reservoir
capacity is 54960cft. The location of this storage system is in canteen area.
Wastage Water: The sullage is being discharged to a nearby drain.

Complies with National Water Policy & ACT

This project complies with the National Water Policy & National Water Resource Planning Act. By providing
clean water to the workers, this project helping towards the attainment of SDGs. Besides existing
underground water usage system in PNG (BD) Ltd. Complies with following act and regulation.

1. The deep tube wells were installed following the nation water policy (1999). According to the policy
the sullage is being discharged into the drain.
2. It complies with the National Water Plan 2018.
3. This system are harmonies with the 7th Five Year Plan of accelerating growth, empowering citizen.
4. One of the global goals set by the United Nations General Assembly for sustainable development
(SDG) was to ensure availability and sustainable management of water & sanitation for all. By
providing clean and safe water to the workers and residential usage, this project helping towards the
attainment of SDGs.
5. PNG(BD) Ltd. has no record of disobeying compliance order, removal order & protection order of
Govt.

The underground water supply and distribution system of PNG (BD) Ltd. Complies all rules and regulation.
So, its existing deep tub well system is enough for fulfill their daily clean water demand for their worker and
residential usage.
