Unit 3 Mid-Review

Remember we use corresponding sides to set up proportions with corresponding sides to solve the
problem! In a previous lesson we determined the scale factor of propositions when we portioned off
the corresponding sides.

So….. the proportional sides are as follows:

RP/ZX, PQ/XY, RQ/ZY then by substituting in the values for the sides we get…. 12/3, when reduced is 4.

Since we can see that triangle RPQ is a special triangle then we can conclude that the triangle scale
factor is 4. The question said that triangle RPQ and triangle XYZ are similar, which means their side are
proportional. So…. 16/6=4 for XY, and 20/4 = 5 for side ZY.

The proportional side are 12/3=4, 16/4=4, and 20/4 = 5. Triangle XYZ lengths are 3,4,5 and the question
ask for the perimeter of triangle XYZ which is the sum of the sides, the 3+4+5= 12in so the

answer is C!
Given that the question said that AE is proportional to ED and BE is proportional to EC we know that the
sides are proportional and because it said that triangle AEB is congruent to triangle DEC then we have

two sides and an angle which corresponds to SAS Similarity Theorem. So the answer is B
Make sure you know the difference between the following theorems:
A key thing to remember is that the question ask what belongs in the blank for triangle sum and how
should you represent it according to the definition….

So, if we remember that to express the triangle sum theorem it looks like the image below:

Then the answer must be D!

If the side splitter theorem states that if a line is parallel to a side of a triangle and intersect the other
two sides, then this line divides those two sides. The problem wants us to find the value of x so we can
use proportions…. Remember to separate the triangles so you can see the proportioned sides.

So… the length of AC = 9, BC= 3, AE = 12 and ED is our unknown x value.

Setting up a proportion gives us AC/CE = AB/ BD, then substituting in the values we get 6/3= 12/x.

When we cross multiply, we get 6x = 36 and when we solve for x we divide both sides by 6 to get 6 for x
then B is the correct answer.
So we must remember that a 5 sided polygon has 5 sides, then to find the interior angle we must use
the formula (n-2)(180) to find the angle sum. Then (5-2)(180) = 540, next we must find the interior sum
which means we divide the number of sides by the angle sum to represent 540/5 = 108 the angle sum.

To find the exterior angle you take the exterior angle sum of all polygons, which is 360 and divide 6 into
it. So….360/5 = 72, then each exterior angle is 72 degrees. To map the polygon onto itself we would

have to rotate it 72 degrees, then the answer is B.

So we want to find the height of the olive tree given that jack stands 2 meters tall and the shadow of the
tree is 6 meters and Jacks shadow is 4 meters. We are still using proportions so 4/10 = 2/x, when we
cross multiply, we get 4x = 20, then when we divide both sides by 4 we get x=5 so

the answer is C.
So we can still use proportions to solve the problem, IB/MS, IG/ML, BG/SL. Then if we are looking for BI,
its is proportional to MS then x/10 = 42/56. So….when we cross multiply we get 12x = 420, then divide

both sides by 12 x = 35 which is the answer D.

So we know the they stated that angle A is congruent to angle E which means these are angles. Next,
because C is the midpoint of angle A and angle E then AC is congruent to CE by definition of midpoint.
Then angle C is congruent to angle C by reflexive property. Therefore the

answer is D (ASA)!
We use proportions to solve this problem., so there are two triangles and you must sent up the
proportions. X is proportional to 26+8 which equals x/10 and 34/8. x/10/34/8, cross multiply to get

8x=340, then divide both sides by 8 to get x = 42.5. The answer is D
