REFLECTION ON THE EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHIES

Perennialism, Essentialism, Progressivism, & Reconstructivistism
Reflection #4

As I reflect on the different Educational Philosophies – Perrenialism, Essentialism,

Progressivism, and Reconstructivism all of the Philosophies carries vital role in molding

ones individual. Perennials believe on the concept that ideas are relevant and

meaningful. They are the most conservative and teacher-centered kind of learning. All

the learning should come from the teacher that serves as the “fountain of knowledge”.

Good manners are given emphasis on perrentialism.

Essentialism from the word essential meaning important. Learners should

possess the knowledge and skill in the 3Rs – Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.

Progressivism is on the experiential learning. Learning is more meaningful to the

learners when it is experience. This is more on the “learning by doing”.

Reconstructivism always think of change for the betterment of what is the usual

way or the usual practice in the system. Reconstructivism educators mainly focus on the

reform.

However, all Educational Philosophies are important in molding the learners.

Some teachers possess one or more of these educational philosophies.
