Written Task No. 1 | CHARACTERS

Direction: A writer must be able to project a character as if it exists in real life. Choose among the
characters of the short story “In a Grove” and provide the following information below. You may go beyond
what are explicitly stated in the story.

Name of the Character: _______________________________________________________________

1. Appearance

2. Attitude/ Temperament

3. Role/ Intention
Written Tasks No. 2 | POINT OF VIEW

Direction: As a writer, you always have to assume the role of the narrator. The perspective of your fiction
depends upon the angle of narration you have chosen – from a particular character (1st person), from a
direct observer (2nd person), or from an all – seeing and sometimes all – knowing narrator (3rd person).
Using any of the three points of view, describe the character from “In a Grove” whom you have chosen is in
the first part of the activity.

1. What does he/she look like?

2. What is his/her attitude?

3. What does he/she intend to do?

Written Task No. 3 | PLOT

Direction: While it is true that all elements of fiction are equally important, it is undeniable though that plot
makes up almost the entire fiction. After choosing the character from “In a Grove” and deciding what POV
you are using, narrate the prior events that led up to where your chosen character confessed.

Performance Task No. 1 | WRITING A FICTION

Direction: Writing a fiction is almost like writing down life itself. Now that you have learned the three basic
elements of fiction, recall the most memorable experience you had in school and write it down with yourself
as the lead character. Narrate the events from a point of view of your choice while following the basic plot
structure. You may use another sheet of bond paper for your narration.
