SAN IGNACIO DE VELASCO

San Ignacio de Velasco, is a city and municipality of Bolivia, capital of the province
of Velasco in the department of Santa Cruz. It is located 476 kilometers east
southeast of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. It has become a tourist center. It
has approximately 41,412 inhabitants. It is located at a height of 410 meters above
sea level.

Founded in the year 1748, first with the name of San Ignacio de Loyola and then
with the name of San Ignacio de Velasco. It bears his name in honor of the founder
of the Society of Jesus and the Jesuit missionaries who founded the missionary
villages of Chiquitos.

Crafts
The costumes are made with materials such as yarn and native fabrics from the
area. How be shirts, pants, dresses hammocks and others.
There is also crafts made from clay and mud. How be jars, glasses, plates,
ornaments and souvenirs. Another crafts is made of wood, such as wood carvings.

as the landscape of the wild flora and fauna.
Cultural Tourism: There are numerous communities and agricultural
establishments that have a very valuable historical heritage.

Tourist attractions
On tourist attractions has it Cathedral Church and San Francisco de Asis Church,
also has it the “Plaza 31 de Julio”. Besides the “El Guapomo” lagoon, it is very big
and beautifull. Other tourist attractions is the “Cave of the Plaster”.
After other tourist attractions is the “cristo redentor” located 4 km from the city and
on the shores of the "El Guapomo" lagoon. The “Mirador del divino niño” is other
tourist attractions located 1 km from the city.
